Swim
Comments: I happened to have the spot behind one of our kids...she did well to stay focused and I never caught up to her nor did I get caught up until the last 25, by the youngest of our swimmers. Started out very comfortable and the pushing under the rope was not too bad, unlike the other time. Made sure I wasn't going too fast. It wasn't till lap 4 that I began to push (and got a bit winded)...should have stayed even pace. On lap 6 was passed by our youngest newbie. He must have been under 4:30 or so... What would you do differently?: Don't even try to surge, long race..just stay patient. Could have warmed up some. I guess swim will always be below average. Transition 1
Comments: The rack was at the furthest point, but closest to exit...didn't have to run but 10 yards of so to the bike exit. As soon as I got to the rack, sat down and switched shoes(someone's idea from BT--thanks guys) The problem came w/putting on the belt number. The number kept coming off the belt. May need to pin it next time. Other than that, it wasn't bad. What would you do differently?: pin number to belt. Bike
Comments: Strong, headwind/cross-winds, tail-winds...you name it. Was not pleasant. Hills to boot. Just nasty. Had ridden this course before in under 48...so I really did expect to get in mid 40s--at least. Not even close. From the start, never felt good. Started out too fast, felt quads immediately, oops. It wasn't until after the turnaround and up the hills that I felt anywhere close to comfortable. And there was the wind...yuk. May have had 4 others pass me, before the turnaround..grrr! I think I caught two back w/ tailwinds. Too hard too early. Paid for it dearly. Got a bit nervous when I noticed I had not cleared bike comp from last ride. Avg was off, dist, speed, etc. What would you do differently?: Stay focused on how to ride a hilly course. clear comp. Transition 2
Comments: Not bad...still can get quicker. almost forgot helmet. What would you do differently?: this was about as good as I was going to get today. Run
Comments: Again, nothing comfortable until at least 1 1/2. First part was downhill. Was able to see others from our school finish. Last part was hilly. Did not concentrate on sub 8 like I should have had. What would you do differently?: More bricks. Will try to set timer on 3:50 intervals. Post race
Warm down: too zapped. Wrapping up w/ hs kids and their awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: the bike segment was just too miserable. More bricks. Event comments: looking foward to this race all ready for next year. Just not focused today. Last updated: 2007-05-06 12:00 AM

4:45 wake-up call. It was good that we only live 15 min away from race site. My little one was supporting...Breakfast: PB and banana w/coffee. Water. Loaded the car and LEFT MY WATER at home...argh.
Was able to get to the site w/out any rush w/ plenty of time. My little one waited as my wife brought the water by. No warm-up...thought about swimming, but was too busy making sure I was not forgetting anything. Met up w/ school kids (hs) and parents and tried to calm their anxities...three newbies for the first time. Another friend came in from Waco w/ a friend doing the tri. Good to see them. Once we went through the instructions, it was off to the pool and the wait which wasn't bad, just crowded. As we waited, we were able to see our best kid (3:40+ swim)...Fun to watch.
