Swim
Comments: I passed more than I got passed. It got very congested half way through. People were catching me, but only because I was stuck behind other people. This one guy really couldn't swim half as fast as the time he submitted. I almost swam over him because I caught him so quickly, my normal stroke landed on his thigh. I was actually 30 seconds slower overall than what I submitted, partly because of the hold ups, but not entirely. What would you do differently?: Take it a little easier, I got pretty tired because I felt pressure to go fast after passing someone, I worked to hard at the end. Transition 1
Comments: That time is a guess. I took it easy in transitions. I didn't feel any urgency and wanted to rest. I did do everything quite smoothly. What would you do differently?: Hurry more, maybe. I wonder if the lack of fumbling helps me more than the lack of hurrying hurts me. I'll at least run faster to transition and to the mount line. Bike
Comments: Counting laps sucks! I kept getting so confused, I didn't help that I had messed up restting my computer. Half way though I saw that I had done 9 miles, so I almost stopped after 12 miles. I would have been short a lap. I remembered my last ride was onlt 2 1/2 miles, so I kept going. Then I still felt like I hadn't done enough laps and almost turned around before transition to go back. Given my time, I think I did the right number. The downhills were great! The traffic circles on the 1st lap were scary, but became the most fun part as I got some practice. I did a couple over 22mph! What would you do differently?: I have to do better climbing hills. Transition 2
Comments: I was distracted wondering if I had ridden enough laps and tired at the same time. Again no rushing or fumbling. I forgot to stretch on the bike coming in, but it didn't seem to hurt me. What would you do differently?: Pick up the pace. Run
Comments: I was surprised I didn't do worse. I started really slow, but got loosened up and must have picked up the pace a fair amount. I walked through three water stops (mile 1, an unofficial one when I came back past mile 1, and mile 2). Mile 2 I took a second cup and dumped it on my head. It was really freakin cold! I was really struggling on the last long stretch before turning into the finish. Other racers were very helpful encouraging me. It also helped that I had run out that way, so I knew how far it was to the finish. I passed where we parked so I knew it was a 1/4 mile left. What would you do differently?: Nothing, it was hard because I pushed myself. That's how its supposed to be. I do need to train more before hand to improve my time. Post race
Warm down: Stagger around drinking water and eating blueberry bagels. It was weird not having anyone to hang around with after the race, not terrible, just weird. What limited your ability to perform faster: The HEAT! and my slack training lately. Event comments: I really like the atmosphere of the race. I wish they had splits and racks for the bikes would have been nice. Its an inexpensive low stress race. Also I think it will be a good spectator race; 4 laps on the bike and a playground next to the pool and transition. Last updated: 2007-05-07 12:00 AM

Wake up in the dark and sneak around the house to get ready. Slim Fast Shake for breakfast (2 hrs before start) on the way. I was running a little late and the 1/4 mile from parking to transition didn't help. I had packed and loaded my bike in the car the night before which helped. Of course I wandered around and went to the restroom a hundred times. Ate a Slim Fast Meal Bar about an hour before the start, then a Power Bar 30 minutes before start. I was taking no chances on being hungry at the start like last time!
I swam a couple lengths before the pre race meeting. I kept changing my mind about running or biking to warm up. I had already layed out transition so I didn't want to mess it up. So I skipped those. I swam a little more in the warm-up lane minutes before my start. I really like that they had that lane.
