Swim
Comments: This was weird in that at the start, there was no defined start line so people were scattered all over. And, the first buoy was parallel to the shore and so a lot of people RAN along the shore a ways before they even jumped in the water! WTF? Anyway, I tried my best staying to the outside of the group which worked out pretty well. The first 200 I took easy, the second 200 I picked it up a bit, the 3rd 200 I slowed it back down (this is where I started getting a little dizzy) and picked it back up for the home stretch! What would you do differently?: Site a little better, I think I swam a little extra as a result of straying, but other than that I am very happy with this swim :) Transition 1
Comments: LOL ~ yes, you read it right: 3 MINUTES!! I half fell over, have sat down trying to get my wetsuit off my heels. I was so dizzy that I didn't mind the moment (or minutes) to chill before I hit it on my bike. I didn't think I'd have a shot at being as fast as some of the other chicks there so I didn't pay too much attention to my T times. DOH! Next race, I'm flyin' through 'em!! What would you do differently?: Pick it up, buttercup! Bike
Comments: The course started out with a small hill and then it seemed flat the rest of the way. There was one stretch that had a slight incline and a little wind where I couldn't break 17mph, but after the turnaround I was able to maintain 26+. I topped out at 40mph on the downhill coming back to transition. Heehee, that was fun :) But my legs were KILLING me during this ride, I couldn't ever let up and every stroke was an effort. This is where I lost my mental strength, I think. I kept talking to myself and telling myself not to let up, not to give up... The bike is my best sport and since I was having such a hard time on it and since I KNEW I wasn't going to break a 20 average, I was starting to get frustrated, discouraged and almost like I was done pushing it. But I hung in there, saw some chick up ahead and thought of her as a rabbit and stepped it up one last time to catch her - I BARELY did but I think she actually crossed the timing mat before me since she did a flying dismount (or something crazy) and I stopped to get off my bike. So in retrospect I'm very happy with my time, soooo that should trump the hard times, right? :) What would you do differently?: Not sure. I'm pretty sure the fact that I got a massive fever the next day had something to do with how badly I was feeling out there. I think my body was already wearing down or something since my joints and muscles are extremely sensitive to viruses. Transition 2
Comments: Didn't waste much time here, though I did try racking my bike in someone else's spot. Duur... What would you do differently?: Find my OWN damn spot! Run
Comments: OMG. So, I had a hard time on the bike, right? I had NO IDEA what was about to hit me until I started out on the run and saw where I was heading. Holy Crap. You had to go up one super steep hill and make a hairpin turn only to go right back down. There was no time to recover your legs or lungs and once you hit the bottom it was time to go right back up the second hill which was just like the first. I may as well had been walking because I wasn't running much faster than that. OH GAAAAWD....!! By the time the hills were over, my legs were cashed. I just hung in for life as all these mid-40 year old chicks were dropping my like FLIES!! WOW!! But I just didn't have much in me at that point. There are rumors the run wasn't quite 3.1, but even if it was under 3 I still hit my sub 8mpm goal :) :) :) What would you do differently?: Not do a race with brutal hills!! Post race
Warm down: Walked around a little with my parent's and pup. Ate an orange and drank some water, stretched a little ~ What limited your ability to perform faster: My legs and attitude :) Event comments: Overall this race was okay. It was smaller, which was kinda nice, but I expected there to be a lot more people, aid stations and hoped there'd be better food. There were orange slices (yuuuum) but then dry bagel bites. Sorry, but I had cotton mouth enough as it was so the thought of gumming down a dry bagel was gross, lol. BUT!! I got to meet a couple BT'ers and see some friends I hadn't seen in a while. After my parent's left I went back to where they were having the awards and when I checked my official time it dawned on me that I was FOURTH!!! WOW!!! That made my whole day a little bit better :) Last updated: 2007-05-08 12:00 AM

Aww man, it was SO nice going to a local race! Usually I'm up at 3 am getting ready to head to Denver, but this time I woke up a little before 6, ate some oatmeal and had some coffee while I loaded the car (pup included) and then headed over to Windsor.
I ran about a 3/4 mile, swam about 50m and treaded water for 5 minutes or so before we were off.
