Swim
Comments: This was a bad swim for mamma. Because the course was opposite of what I'm used to I lined up in what I thought would be the outside but turned out to be the middle. Chicks lined up outside the start line to be closer to the buoys I guess but that pushed everyone over on to me. So I had a couple of panicked scrapes and my heart rate shot through the roof. I kept thinking, "Girl you're not going to finish this swim if you don't calm down." So I started singing that Old Negro Spiritual "Wade in the Water." It's slow and it's baritone rhythm calmed me down. I didn't get a good stroke rhythm until the first turn. But once I got there I got my stride and blazed a trail back to shore. What would you do differently?: Line up where I'm supposed to be. Transition 1
Comments: This was good except for - and my coach is going to yell at me for this one - I put on socks! But I didn't dry my toes. But I have never ridden in my bike shoes without socks before and didn't want to try it in a race. Overall my transition was smooth but I really want to get them down to about 1:20. What would you do differently?: Not wear socks. Bike
Comments: I was a maniac on this bike. I started slow. Had to get my barrens and get some nutrition in me. Plus I was going up the grinding hill climb on 36. I was getting passed a lot. But once I got up the hill - I was averaging about 11-12 mph, I just put it in 3rd gear and never looked back. Didn't matter if I was zooming up flats or hills I was hammering the bike. Just willing my legs to go as fast as they could. I started picking off all those folks who passed me one by one. No more leap frogging. Just hit the gas. It helped that I knew the course and I knew I had about 7 miles of flat slight hills to gain some speed. I kind of flatten out about 1 mile out and was so estatic that I slowed down through the finish and dismounted before I needed to but oh well. I looked back to when I did this race in 05. And my bike time was 1:10:14. So I took a full freakin' 8 min off the bike this year and was so stoked I couldn't believe it. I was a full 2 mph faster this year as well (and that's with taking a year off). So I'm very happy with this bike result. I had jokingly said I wanted a 1 hour bike time and I damn near made it! Maybe if I hadn't dismounted 200 yards before the dismount line I could have. Ha. What would you do differently?: Go out faster. Leave it in third gear the entire race. I was hesitant to do that cause I was worried about my muscle strength in the legs. But I think my good pre-race meal did the trick keeping stored with nutrients. No cramps or pain. Transition 2
Comments: OK Kylie you're going to really get me for this - I CHANGED SOCKS AGAIN! What the heck is wrong with me. I changed from bike socks to regular socks and then put on shoes. Geez I'm a tool. What would you do differently?: Not change socks. Run
Comments: So when I did the Boulder Bolder I drank a ton of water and it made me feel sloshy. This time I stuck with Gatorade and had 1 sport bean packet and I felt good during the run. I started out slow - grand ma shuffle but then by the time I got to the turn around I was feeling better. So picked up my feet. Felt good on this run, no pain and no exhaustion. Even sprinted at the end. What would you do differently?: Throw in some sprints even if it means I have to walk some. My steady slow shuffle isn't doing me any good. My legs need to know what it feels like to go faster instead of settling in, in my own slow pace. I sprinted at the end so I know I could do it. Post race
Warm down: Ate. Hung out with BTers. Watched a little of the awards and then went back to Casa de la Mac to shower and go to Denver to see my friend Susan. (My car broke down on the way back to the Springs - loooong story). But Stacie and I were leaving when we saw people still finishing. They were doing the awards and Stacie said something like I can't believe people are still finishing. And I said, "Remember, that used to be me. I would finish even a sprint and they'd already be having the awards, no food left." That used to be me. Not anymore! What limited your ability to perform faster: Um my poor transitions. Ughh. And my inability to run faster. My poor swim line up. Event comments: This is one of my favorite races and I am blessed that I got to do it again. I took 7 minutes off my time in 05 and you can't really be upset with that can you? Next year, I'll bust the 2:00 mark. Thanks to all the Colorado Bters for making me feel welcomed again. Fabulous race and good times had by all. Last updated: 2007-05-09 12:00 AM

Well, woke up around 6 a.m. so that I could get my 10 min of running, then 15 min of biking and then 20 min of cutting the weeds out of my front yard in before driving up to Boulder. (Had to cut the jungle there were small pygmies living in my bushes!!!)
Then I drove up to Boulder to pick up the packet. It was already freakin' hot. Like 80 degrees and it was 10 a.m. Met the Mac's at the Boulder Res and hung out with their ever expanding family. Then went to Wal-mart to get nutrition, Bicycle Village oh yeah had to eat - scarfed down a chicken breast sandwich from Applebees then hoofed it back to Casa de la Mack. Fixed the Transition bag all nice and purty and then went to bed. Woke up at 4 a.m. had breakfast and followed Cath to the race site. I ate 1/2 bowl of oatmeal, a bannana, a couple of spoonfuls of yogurt and a mini bagel with butta' My best pre-race meal ever and it worked making me have a fabulous race. More on that later.
Was at the transition so freakin' early that I got to hang out with all the hardcore Colorado BTers. Stacie, Julie, Ryan, Adam, even saw Brett and Drew, Jen and Matt, and everyone. It was so cool to see everyone. I've been out of Colorado BT commission for a year so this was my first race with the 'rado crowd and it was freakin' fanstastic. I can't believe how great everyone looks. Fabulous. After running my motor mouth - Barry the race director came over and talked to me, Celeste from CWW and USAT board member and all these people who thought I was dead after they talked to me I went running. Which is a great warm up. Then pulled on the wet suit and dipped in the water and waited for my wave.
