Swim
Comments: I hyperventilated (as expected) for the first 150 yards or so, so I did the sidestroke - ? whcih I have NEVER practiced before; but it felt right at the time. Once I calmed down I hit the breast stroke - planned to do that until I hit the bridge which was about 1/3 - 1/2 way through. At that point I felt fine, and tried to do freestyle but the slight 'chop' in the water kept slapping me in the face when I was breathing - and kept making me choke. Therefore, I did the breast stroke for the majority of the time. What would you do differently?: Do more OWS practices so I can get used to raising my head higher when breathing in choppy water. I know I would have been faster if I got into my freestyle groove!! Transition 1
Comments: I was so shaky coming out of the swim just fron nerves!! I got to my spot and immediately cleaned my feet, put my socks and shoes on, and then my sunglasses, helmet, and gloves. Grabbed my bike and ran/walked to the bike mount area. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Felt weird because it was my first transition in a race. But I think I did ok. Bike
Comments: I loved this ride. I was going as hard as I could - tried to stay at 20 mph but I ran out of gas around mile 13..... I tried eating sport beans during the first lap but I guess I just need to learn to pace myself better. What would you do differently?: I left it all out there on the bike course. When I do the full tri, I'll need to pace myself a little better. Transition 2
Comments: I didn't have to worry as much about this one. My teammate met me halfway through the trans. area and grabbed the chip from me, and off she went. What would you do differently?: nothing. Run
Comments: My runner cut a minute off of her best 5K time!! She didn't look too good after the finish, though - but she walked it off and was good after that. I am really proud of her! What would you do differently?: nothing! Post race
Warm down: I got off my bike and was so juiced up that I didnt know what to do. I took my bike shoes off, put my running shoes on, and tried to find something to drink. I totally forgot to stretch. Duh. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of OWS experience, fitness level Event comments: Great race, and the race directors are really cool. I'd definitely like to come back and do the entire course next year! Last updated: 2007-05-10 12:00 AM

Oatmeal and water at 5:15 AM. Bleary-eyed after a short night of sleep. Ate a banana while driving to pick up YiJiun (my runner for the relay) and we got to the site around 6:15AM.
Got to dip into the river at 7AM, which raised my confidence since the water was not too cold nor was it gross. Dare I say - it was refreshing??
OTher than that quick dip, I only did a few stretches before my swim wave went out.
ALSO - met a fellow BT-er 'Miss Bethy'. It was cool to meet someone from here!!
