Swim
Comments: Very cold water. Got used to it after 500m but it was a shock to the face when I first jumped in. The course was definitely short. No way I averaged 1:08/100m Transition 1
Comments: Horrible transition. I decided to wear arm warmers that took soooo long to get on. I should have just ditched them as it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. All well. Bike
Comments: I rode hard but the legs felt great. No burning at all. Flew up the climbs. Made sure to drink as much as I could... HEED and Sustained Energy mix. Transition 2
Comments: Quick second tranistion. Nothing wrong. Run
Comments: Felt solid. Ran hard, pushing it the whole way. Had a gel in hand and tried to eat it but my mouth gets so dry I couldn't swallow it all. had to ditch half of it. was gaining on second place but just couldn't reel him in before the line. Very happy with my time relative to others. Michael Simpson can hammer out some fast runs and i was only 1 second slower. I'm sure his max effort would have put him a bit faster, but I'm thinking not by much. Post race
Warm down: 16minute run for cool down Nice and easy. What limited your ability to perform faster: Some stomach cramping/bloating in the swim cause some discomfort. Probably didn't slow me down though. All in all I had a good race. Painfully slow transitions. Event comments: May need some adjustments to the distances but all in all it was a good race. Had about an hour drive to the race site. Had plenty of time to get organized. I had Oatmeal and Flax seed with raisins for breakfast. About 2hrs before I had an Ensure. Then had a bite or two of a power bar when I felt some hunger before the start.
5-10 min jog to get the heart pumping and body warm. Stayed out of the water.
