Pre-race routine:

got up at 5AM and had a banana and water. Went over checklist.
Event warmup:

Got wet. Got some water on/in the wet suit
Quick ride ... threw chain and had to get chain back on bike.

I was most concerned about this segment. Turns out it was my best of the day. Who knew? Once I turned the final buoy I pulled even with a girl and damned if she was gonna beat me to the shore.

Big plus was swimming off that same beach the night before. I knew where i could touch bottom coming out of swim
What would you do differently?:

I didn't focus on swimming as much as I should. More focus...better technique

Screwed around too much. There is a picture of me with one foot stuck in the wetsuit. 3+ minutes is ridiculous.
What would you do differently?:

Get suit off quicker. Have gels in helmet. I got some water too ... that killed me.

This segment killed me. I should have been in 30-40 minute range. Dear #402 your helmet sticker came off and stuck to my tire. That was irritating...sounded like playing cards in spokes. Cost me about 30 sec. to get it off. Not that that made a big difference.

more bike, different gearing

I was pleased with this. Put my garmin 201 on upside down but started it okay. Race belts are good things.

I slowed too much towards dismount.

Wow. So bike to run bricks are probably something to focus on in the future. Took me about 8/10 mile to get legs. Furman collegiate guys were very supportive. I thought they were actually doing the 5K at the time. I think they were doing a cool off run....lol. What's up with that.
What would you do differently?:

brick, brick, brick....

I might have punted on the wetsuit...but i don't like cold water. Was surprised that the water temp had changed that much in a day.
Post race
Warm down:

Met the family... ate some food. Chili was good and greasy.

Ya know, I will beat myself up because I thought I could just go out and perform great without having done this before....BUT this was the first one I had done... ever. So, based on my time, I can only go up from here...:).

Event was handled great. I think I have been bitten by the tri bug.

I did lose a $300 watch though. A garmin 305...anyone see it ...please let me know.

Course: 2 moderate hills ... one at Jervey, One Coming up to Cherry Road intersection. Then the killer hill on Cherry Road. Downhill flat run for 1-2 miles then gradual to a set of rolling hills by airport and then killer downhill turn to left and gradual incline followed by descent down to 93 and slight descent to race site.
