Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:30AM. Bananas, water and bagel. On the road at 4:30. Got to site about 6:20 after wrong turn.
Event warmup:

Prepared transition area. Not much warmup. Some stretching.
Swim
  • 09m 38s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

50m pool. Staggered start. I put 10minutes on registration which put me at the back. Passed one person who kept cutting me off when I would try to pass her. Bi-lateral breathing has improved but needs to be better. Strong armed the last 50m.
What would you do differently?:

Better breathing. Training in 25m pool doesn't help pacing either.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Didn't get true transition times. Most likely it is part of the bike time? or not at all.
What would you do differently?:

It was actually pretty good. Didn't have to fool with wet suit.
Bike
  • 54m 19s
  • 14 miles
  • 15.46 mile/hr
Comments:

I didn't drink enough. Took one hammer gel. gotta get my cadence sensor straight on the bike. Side Note: I don't mind the tri-bikes passing me as much as the mountain bikes :).
What would you do differently?:

Drink more. Make sure that my cadence sensor is working. I meant to do that before the race day but time did not permit.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 was better. Feet were numb.Gotta do something about that.
What would you do differently?:

clipless pedals. More biking... better use of gearing.
Run
  • 46m 47s
  • 4 miles
  • 11m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Gosh this continues to be my problem. I faded miserably.Took about 8/10 of a mile to find my legs. Went solid for about 2 miles before started having issues. Feet were numb to begin with from bike. So clearly shoes/pedals aren't right.

Stalked one guy for about a mile before I finally passed him. He never caught me ... thank goodness.

Gave up way too many positions to people that I was way ahead of on bike. I could have finished easily in top 100.

Finished with a kick.
What would you do differently?:

Get more road work. more road work and then do some more road work. I actually performed BETTER though than on the Clemson Tri run.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank gatorade. My quads were cramping...first time I have had this problem.
The finishing kick really put them into spasms. Not enough fluids? during race?

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Running. I faded really bad.

Event comments:

Fun day. Recovery was quicker than expected. I found myself looking for another tri as soon as I can find one that is nearby. Otherwise, begin extended training time.
