Run
Comments: went in thinking that I'd go with a Z2 in the first half and probably in the last quarter (1:45 or so) , I'd start jumping into Z4 or so . But , was keeping my options since I wanted to run strong and would depend on the race mostly . tried to keep up with the 2:15 pace group as much as possible till the 1st water stop i.e 2 mile marker . felt nice and strong so decided to stay within Z3 within reason or IOW not go too far off into Z4 . was a bit painful but not bad since was holding back for the final push :) at the 1:30 mark , decided to step it up a notch and started pushing in Z4 . turned out I was running in Z5 before long ... not the smartest approach , I guess but felt good at the time ! started to feel the burn at the 12 mile mark and this is where I should have the reserves to really open it up but didn't . it was quite a burn and had to recover and push alternately quite a bit in the last mile or so . But the good thing was that I was able to sprint thru' the last 0.1 mile :-) What would you do differently?: - think thru' the hydration strategy for a race a bit more since it would be different from the training runs . - try and pace the tempo run a bit more so can deal with the pacing a bit more. Post race
Warm down: just walking thru' the end zone and picking the goodies, etc. after meeting the family , just did some inplace-stretching for 5-10 mins. Event comments: excellent race with tons of music bands , many cheerleading troupes with a lot of spirit and very well organized in general . Last updated: 2007-05-15 12:00 AM
