Swim
Comments: After bracing all spring for last year's water temperature (62, maybe) this was a pleasant surprise. Swim was easy--wish I had brought the sleeveless wetsuit. Goggles leaked once but I drained them fast. What would you do differently?: Go a little harder, maybe. Sleeveless suit. I liked that at the start of the season this swim was relaxed and uneventful. Transition 1
Comments: Time is approximate but very close. I was too deliberate, and took the time to put a long-sleeve jersey on. Bike
Comments: This was a steady moderately hard effort. New bike setup felt great. I have the most to gain on the bike and this was a start--averaged over 20 and beat my modest goal of 1.15. Transition 2
Comments: This was fine. Took time for some nutrition but that saved time on the run. Run
Comments: I will take a 7.40 pace any time. That is the PowerCrank training at work, no question. Post race
Event comments: A well run race, well timed to start the season. When the weather is as nice as it was (cool at the start but OK water temperature, warm enough on the bike and run) this is definitely fun. The race attracts people from all over, so this is definitely a faster crowd than typical local races. I took 10+ minutes off my time last year so was reasonably pleased. Did not arrive as early as to some races, so mostly set-up and trips to the head.
Some brisk walking; see above.
