Swim
Comments: Went out slow and relaxed from the start. Concentrated on reaching and rolling to the air. Enjoyed the view of the sky when I looked up. Sighted every 4-5 cycles. After about 5 minutes I totally relaxed, and didn't see anyone around me. Figured I was the last in the wave by then, but didn't want to push. Rounded the first buoy and felt a surge of confidence. Rounded the second and knew I could make it back. Saw someone doing backstroke and another doing breaststroke. Just kept my rhythm and pace, as slow as it was. Never hurt and enjoyed every minute of it. Could see the sun rise over my right shoulder on the way back. Was truly a spectacular view. Felt comfortable in my solitude in the water. Elise and Guy were on the shore to greet me. I high-fived Guy, and patted Elise's head. That moment was priceless. There was a long run to the transition mat, and I walked most of it. The rocks hurt and I really wasn't in a hurry. Eli What would you do differently?: Probably could have pushed harder. Transition 1
Comments: Went well. Had no trouble finding my bike... only about 6 left. Almost forgot to fasten my shoes before I left. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Could not get front dérailleur to shift into largest chain ring. Not sure when that jam happened. Hampered my speed considerably. Did a lot of spinning and lost some time trying to trouble-shoot while riding. Was very comfortable on the ride. Loved every minute of it and could have gone longer. Never hurt. Passed 10-12 people, several while climbing hills. Gave me a boost of confidence. Do better than average on climbing. What would you do differently?: Check all my gears before racking the bike. Push harder. Get a computer with a cadence monitor. Transition 2
Comments: The wheels kinda came off here. Had trouble racking the bike at first. Then got off shoes and sat down to get on socks and running shoes. Brain was moving way too slow. Couldn't seem to figure out how things went...like a drunk. Was glad I didn't have to tie my shoes. Grabbed my hat a race belt and realized I still had my helmet on. Duh!!! Got those switched and started to run the wrong way out of transition. Reversed gears and made it out. What would you do differently?: Practice this one more Run
Comments: Murray ran with me all the way. Did 1 min. run/walk. Actually went OK. Right hip began to hurt about 1/2 way. Only passed by 2, so thought that was OK. What would you do differently?: Train more on running Post race
Warm down: Got a big hug from DH and kiddos. Drank my recovery drink, but too nauseated to eat. Cooled down and watched the awards. Ashley got 1st in her age group!. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weight! Must loose some. Need to work on run more. Also was very conservative on my swim and run, to make sure the wheels didn't come off in the run. Would do more bricks to feel secure about the run. Event comments: Well organized small race for women only. Particularly geared to the beginner triathlete. All were so friendly and supportive. Organizers insisted that all remain until the last runner made it in. Loved their attitudes! Last updated: 2007-05-16 12:00 AM

Arrived at site on Friday, 2 days prior to race. Biked a little Saturday, just to check out the bike. Also surveyed the course. Hydrated and rested the day before. Ate a light dinner at 7PM and got to bed early, around 9:30 PM. Awoke at 4:30. Had some coffee and yogurt and relaxed a little. Checked my gear, filled my bottles and got to the race around 6:30.
Hammergel about 15 min before race. Swam 25 yards, just to see how sighting was. Felt pretty nervous. Trying to stay focused on my goal...to finish with a smile. Deep water start in 2 waves, mine the second. Those buoys sure do look far away. Unsure if I can make the swim without hanging onto a canoe. Ashley starts in the first wave. I hang back about 15ft from the rope start to let everyone get out in front of me. I don't want to fight in the water.
