Swim
Comments: Wow was I not ready for this at all! I mean come on 25:12! My goal was between 20-25 minutes to be honest and I had at least 1 minute to a minute and half added to the swim as we had to get out of the water, run the length of the transition area to the far end and then back through the transition area to get to my bike. This run on the outside was all part of the swim, so really I was out of the water at about 23-24 minutes. I guess I should be happy I hit what I wanted, but man it sure could have been soo much better! I really need to take some lessons come winter and focus on my swimming. I swam most of this on my back and breast stroke. I did perfect the "barrel" roll though. :) Breast stroke, barrel roll to back, back swim for a bit, barrell roll to stomach, free style swim for a bit, then breast stroke and start all over again. What would you do differently?: Need to train more on the swim. Look at my logs, I avoid the swim like the plaque. Transition 1
Comments: Due to something happening at the race, the transition times are not broken out and are all added to the bike splits. :( When comparing my computer bike splits with those on the site, it looks like both transitions were about 5 minutes total. What would you do differently?: Need to work on these. For the bike I need to work on keeping the shoes on the bike and getting in them while riding. Then I need to work on getting out of the shoes while riding also. Bike
Comments: This was my best ride period! I wanted to average between 19-20mph and I was almost at 20. Fantastic! I was passing folks alot on the ride and I felt so awesome and comfortable. What would you do differently?: Nothing...I felt awesome. Only thing was I might have been able to push just a little bit harder, but now I have something to shoot for next time. Transition 2
Run
Comments: This was so much better than the duathlon that I did a few weeks back! I was able to run all but just a few steps on this run. I did lose about 30-45 seconds as I had to goto the bathroom really bad coming off the bike and I had to hit the porto-let on the way out of transition. (To the lady I yelled at I do apologize, just had to go and wanted to get out again in a hurry. :( ) I pushed a pretty good pace for me for the run. I felt comfortable for the entire run except for the first 1/4 mile or so. I actually felt stronger on the way back in than I did going out. I haven't looked at my Garmin yet, but I think I had a negative split on the back side. I really hit a great stride at the turn around and really felt like I stepped it up. What would you do differently?: Not much, not walk at all during the run and again maybe push it a little harder. I seem to leave some in the tank and I really think I could have gotten this run down to around 25-26 minutes had I pushed harder. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, hugged the family and congratulated the other racers. Had alot of grapes, a bananna and a mixture of gatorade and water. What limited your ability to perform faster: My swim for sure. It needs major help come winter. Event comments: Over all for my first tri I am extremely pleased with my results! To have come out MOP and top ten in my age group and just barely missing MOP overall is fantastic for me! Next stop is Buck Creek in two weeks. Looking to improve on the swim and tranistion times. Also I need to push harder on my run. Last updated: 2007-05-18 12:00 AM

Got lost on the way to the race by taking a wrong turn. It wasn't looking very good, but fortunately I left with plenty of time with my son and we got to the location right around 6am.
Here is the funny part. I get there thinking the race started at 8am. I am taking my time setting up my transition area. I noticed that I had forgotten my running hat so I had my son call my wife and tell her to make sure she grabs it. Well she did grab it, but she didn't realize I wanted it at the race, so she left it in the car. :) I am standing around talking with my son and just starting to stretch out when the PA announcer say that we have 20 minutes to start time. 20 minutes!!!! I ask my son what time it is and he says 6:40am! My wife, mother, in laws and our three daughters are not here yet as they think it starts at 8am. Oh well, my son calls them to let them know and I start stretching out. So much for the planned jog and bike ride to warm up in. All I get was some stretches and then lined up in my wave.
