Swim
Comments: Swim felt very good. I was very surprised at my swim time. I felt as though I swam comfortably hard and was surprised at my time when I got out of the pool! The guy who won the race knocked off a 4:30 swim... this and T1 is where I lost the race. What would you do differently?: I probably could have gone a little harder in the pool... but if I had, I may not have had it at the end of the race. Transition 1
Comments: T1 went a little slower than normal because I knew I had to wear socks for my race running shoes. Compared to the guy who won, I took 20 extra seconds to put on socks. What would you do differently?: Maybe put Body Glide on my feet before the swim and just sucked it up and been resigned to the fact I was going to get a blister. But considering I have a HIM the next weekend, I wasn't willing to take that risk. Bike
Comments: 1st overall on the bike!!!! Whoo Hoo! I felt very strong on the bike and everyone kept coming up to me and saying how I just dropped the field. Gotta be the new Zipps! :) What would you do differently?: Have tested the gearing again before the race. The gearing was off so I could either be really low or really high in gear. Transition 2
Comments: Overall a bad transition. I should have been out in < 20 seconds. What would you do differently?: I needed to ride all the way to the dismount area. I jumped off the bike too soon. I also racked my bike on the wrong rack then had to go back and put it on the correct rack. Run
Comments: I felt pretty bad throughout the run! When i saw my splits, I nearly fell off my chair! I PR'd my 5K time!!!! I knew I was being chased down the whole time and thought for sure he would catch me. I ended up finishing first by over a minute... but unfortunately, I needed to win by over 2:10 to win the race. Just not enough. What would you do differently?: Can't really have done much of anything better. Maybe run a little harder the 2nd half, but I pretty much gave it all I had. Post race
Warm down: Stretched my legs a bit and sat down to get my HR back down. What limited your ability to perform faster: I had my best day and still got beat. Simply put, I was beaten by a better, faster guy that day. Considering the fact that the winner and I were the only two people under 1 hour out of 100 people, it was a pretty competitive race.... and he was just simply better than I was. Event comments: Headfirst Performance put on a great race! They are always a LOT of fun, it's good to see all the newbies out there for the first time. Lots of things to snack on after the race too. Good day overall and congrats to Lewis Jackson who won the race. You're a heck of a triathlete! Last updated: 2007-05-18 12:00 AM

Drank 1 chocolate Ensure 3 hours before race and ate a Snickers marathon bar on the way there and drank a Diet Mt. Dew. Said Hi to everyone and Matt, a friend of mine, drove the bike course with me to check out the bad gravel spots. Listened to some music in the car to settle the nerves.
Ran a little over a mile warmup (my usual) then went into the pool and swam about 300 meters warm up to get the shoulders all ready.
