Swim
Comments: I really underperformed in the swim. I was having a hard time relaxing and getting into a good rhythm. First, I had to pee something fierce, which plagued me the entire race. Then I struggled against the wetsuit...next time I want to try a sleeveless. I didn't like the suit near as much as I thought I was going to...(First time in a wetsuit)...Finally, I kept veering left and I was way outside of the main swimlane. I swam my ass a couple races out there zig zagging all over tarnation and back. Bottom line, I never got comfortable and in the groove...too many waves in the face and too many things I wasn't used to with the open water swim. I'm glad I'm current on my shots, because I drank quite a bit of the York River today. What would you do differently?: 1. Go with a sleeveless wetsuit, or train with a full sleeve suit...my shoulders got really tired trying to move that thing around. 2. Practice OWS. That is a pain to setup when you don't live where it is convenient, but there is a reason EVERYBODY tells you to practice OWS. 3. Do a better job on swim workouts during training...swimming is my least favorite event, but if you don't train to it, you ain't going to get any better! Transition 1
Comments: No problems...at least that I can remember. Age Group (17/38) What would you do differently?: Try to move a little faster coming out of the water. Bike
Comments: After my swim, it took a bit to get into the groove on the bike. However, the course was fast and my pace was fast (at least for me :P ). 3 min 34 seconds off the lead pace in my age group...1 minute 58 seconds off top 5 in age group. What would you do differently?: Don't know...I enjoyed the bike...maybe I was just happy to be out of the water! Transition 2
Comments: The bike rack was about 1 inch too short, so I couldn't get my seat under it to re-rack 28/38 in age group. What would you do differently?: Practice popping the bike shoes off and leaving them on the pedals Run
Comments: I was pretty damn tired by this point, but I felt pretty good. I need to get more conditioning to be able to keep up the intensity by this point...and lose more weight. 3 min 49 seconds off age group run leader, 2 min 20 seconds off 5th place in age group. What would you do differently?: ?? Post race
Warm down: Stand around. What limited your ability to perform faster: Sucky swimming and not training between Oct 05 and Apr 07. Event comments: Good race! Last updated: 2007-05-19 12:00 AM

Got up at 0440 (ouch!). Had 2 bags of instant oatmeal and a cup of coffee and hit the road. Got up to Yorktown about 0550 or so. I parked at the visitors center, but that was quite a hike to the race area...there are closer places to park. Set up my transition, then went back to the truck to get my swim gear. About 90 minutes prior to race, had a banana. At 60 minutes, a chocolate Cliff Bar.
Stand around in transition area...and getting into wetsuit
