Pre-race routine:

I had one major goal for this race: finish. My secondary goal was to jog the whole race. My super secret goal was to come in under 90 minutes. I accomplished all three!

Ate 3/4 slice banana bread and some Gatorade
Event warmup:

Some stretching. Three walks to bathroom.

Comments:

Was glad to have two gals from my running program persuading me to do this race. They were great company and did the event at my pace.

I wasn't 100% sure I could finish this distance, and I was prepared to take walking breaks as often as needed. However, I didn't have to. I jogged the entire distance at my slow pace. Wore the Fuel Belt and took a Gu at the 45-minute mark. Stomach felt good.

I felt great the entire run, but had some calf cramping.
What would you do differently?:

Get more sleep the night before if possible.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience. I've only been running since late December.

Event comments:

Great post-race party. Dottie won her age group, and I got a door prize (a T-shirt). Good race packet with socks and nice race T-shirt. Very good value race.

Post-race food was a bit disappointing -- but only to me. They had pork barbecue, pasta salad and potato salad, none of which I could safely eat because of gluten. It's not so much that I needed the food, but I felt really left out. (I did have a 1/2 banana, 1 cup of Cytomax and a Coke.) I think next race I'm going to bring my own special treats so as to not feel left out.
