Swim
Comments: This was only my second time doing a triathlon. The start of this race was much larger with about 150 in my wave. I got caught in a lot of traffic the first 250M which really slowed me up. I started towards the outside of the bouy and it came back to bite me. At the first left hand turn I found myself way off to the right and found that I had swam about 20M off course to the right. I lost a considerable amount of time here. By the time I recovered I was able to find some feet and the trip back into shore along the long backstrech was very good. I felt strong and was on track. What would you do differently?: Position myself differently at the start and make better use of spotting the bouys. Transition 1
Comments: My transition was much improved from my last race. Suit came right off and ran very hard up from the water to my bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: The course was wet so I had to take the turns easy. Our starting wave was pretty late so there was a lot of traffic on the course. I just wanted to stick with a guy in my age group who I knew coming into the race was a strong biker. We were out of the water at the same time and played cat and mouse the majority of the bike and came into T2 at the same time. Passing on the course was difficult at times esp. on the hills. People were 3 wide at points and were not giving way to loud on your left calls. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Smooth transition. Took a few seconds extra to down some cytomax. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: My feet were numb from the bike and took about a mile to get feeling back and my heart rate to settle. Running is my strong event and I was hoping to run a 38:30 on this hilly course. I had no idea where I was in my age group so I just kept pressing on. I was passing a lot of people and was comfortable clicking off miles at about 5:45. The hills came in the middle miles and slowed to about 6:07s. Right at mile 5 as I was climbing the last hill back into the park I noticed someone in my age group. I quickly caught up to him at the top of the hill. He went with me on the downhill and I started to panic. Can this guy kick the last 3/4 of a mile? I put a bit of a surge on when we hit the flat and lost him. I could feel my HR shooting up a bit so I eased off ever so slightly so I could have a final kick. I hit the last rise before the finish and gave it everything to the line. What would you do differently?: More hill training. Post race
Warm down: Strech water food and friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: Open water swimming with lot of people around. Event comments: This event was really well run and a whole lot of fun to compete in. Last updated: 2007-05-21 12:00 AM

Woke up around 4:45 showered headed out to the race. I ate 2 pieces of whole wheat bread and a pouch of cliff blocks on the way and sipped on some gatorade. Setup my transition and got ready for a long wait till my wave.
Ran around a little and stretched.
