Run
Comments: Probably the fastest 2 miles I have ever pulled out. It's sad that this is the case when you see that only 6 people in the ENTIRE race were slower than me. What would you do differently?: Just need to keep turning my legs over faster and faster. Transition 1
Comments: My first under minute transition ever. Of course the fact that it was a run to bike, not swim to bike transition helped. I decided not to put my gloves on in transition but once I got to the mount line, I decided not to put them on. Stuffed them in my bike jersey pocket. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Bike
Comments: Moved up 20 spots from the first run. I felt good on the bike (in a oh my god my legs are cramping so much good!). I just keep pedaling. The road surface was really bumpy chip seal for about the first 2 miles once we got out of the park. After that, it smoothes out nicely. Once we made the right to continue on to the Olympic course, it got rough again. It was also an obstacle course to get around the potholes and torn up roads. What would you do differently?: I just do not drink enough on the bike. Tried the aero bottle this time. I need to get more comfortable drinking from it. Overall, I was happy with my ride. It was my fastest average speed ever. Transition 2
Comments: My second under 1 minute Transition!!!!! What would you do differently?: Nothing! Run
Comments: Only got passed by 8 people...not too bad for me! This was like a death march for me. It was also where the wheels fell off for Dallas Athletes as far as race organization goes. The first part of the run was through the park. The first aid station seemed to come up after 100 yards. It was a weird part of the run where you veer off the path and go left up a road for about 1/4 mile. The aid station was on the right but then you turned left but...runners coming back were going straight so you had to run across their path. Then, when you got back on the path, you again had to cross the path of the runners coming back to get more water and then, cross again to run on the left side of the trail. About another mile up the path was the 5K turaround and another aid station. The Olympic runners then turned right on the park road, ran to the highway and kept going, and going and going on the chipseal road, with no shade and no aid station until you hit the 10K turnaround. There really needed to be another aid station on the run. it was at least 2 miles between the water stations. I really hated this run. What would you do differently?: Well, the thing I am not sure about is if this was the planned run route, or it was because the path's that they were going to use were underwater? Had I known how far apart the aid stations were after leaving the park, I would have carried my own water. Post race
Warm down: Water, lots of water. I really felt lousy after the run. My head was throbbing and my legs ached. I was hungry but could not eat anything. Collected my hardware and headed home. Weird thing happened on the way home...my legs got all blotchy red. They did not itch or swell, but they were really ugly looking. Not sure what that was all about. I had some chocolate milk which I have not had in years, maybe it was that. When I got home, I crashed in the couch and put my legs up. They are OK now but it was really odd. What limited your ability to perform faster: My sucky run. Event comments: I know DA had a lot to deal with. It's certainly not their fault that the lakes could not be used. But, I am not sure what's going on with them latley. Seems like their races have been getting less and less organized. At Texas Woman we did not even have timing chips. I know this may sound petty, but the quality of their race shirts is even cheap. I have never waited so long to pee in my life. 10 porta potties for 600 racers is not enough. There was also a lot of confusion as to start times. The Oly was supposed to go off at 7, and the sprint at 7:30. The Oly ended up going off at about 15 after and then, a minute later, they sent the sprint athletes off. So, the women Oly racers were being run over by the sprint men in about 30 seconds. Those guys don't care who they trample over to get ahead. The lack of aid stations on the run was a real problem too. All they had to do was move the station at the 10K turnaround 1/2 a mile before the end. This way, we could hit it twice. Not too sure if I will sign up for a DA race again. Had dinner Saturday night with the BT bunch...Steve, Aaron, Shannon, Laurie, Steve B, Brandt, John and Clint. Awesome italian restaurant in Southlake. Never before have I eaten with a lifesize bust of Pope Benedict starring at me.
Woke up at the butt crack of dawn and headed out. I was actually smart and got all of our bottles and stuff prepared Saturday night so we would not have to wory about it. Ate a PB&J in the car on the way there. Got to the park and racked next to Steve. Found the Disco Queens and hit the porta potty for the first time. About 10 minutes later, when I realized I needed to go again, the line was longer than I have ever seen but, if ya gotta go, ya gotta go. Probably waited 20 minutes. They actually delayed the start of the race because the lines were so long.
