Run
Comments: Given my lack of training, I really wanted to hold back and stay relaxed knowing that pushing too hard would really kill me for the whole race. Last year I ran a very relaxed 18:38. This was a little more painful 19:25. I was definately breathing harder than I would have liked but sometimes my competitive nature just gets the better of me. What would you do differently?: At the time I thought I should have run a little slower but I think it ended up being a pretty good pace. Transition 1
Comments: My transitions were pretty good. This was 5 seconds slower than last year but that is because a MTB racked next to me was leaning against my bike so I had to do some adjusting. Bike
Comments: I was hoping to have a good bike as that is the one thing that I have had some consistency over. The first half of the course is much hillier than the second half so I played it a little but conservative early. I was with a group of riders for most of the may. There were two people on road bikes and two of us on tri bikes. On the hills, the guys on road bikes where just faster than me but on the flats, we definately had an advantage. Once we crossed over Rt 2 I just went has hard as I could and dropped that group and caught a few other people. I knew I would pay for it on the 2nd 5k but hell, I was just here for fun so I didn't worry about it. I was about 1.5 min slower than last year which was a little surprising but I think this year was a little windier and I was definately more tired coming off the run. What would you do differently?: Nothing, pretty happy with the ride. Transition 2
Comments: 1 second faster than last year...woohoo, it is all about T2 :) Run
Comments: As I explained to Capt Jack as I ran by, the second 5k is definately longer than the 1st 5k. I was really happy with how my race had gone so though I tried to run fast, I didn't kill myself. No one was really passing me until up that last hill when 2 guys went by my and I had no legs to respond. What would you do differently?: Train more Post race
Warm down: Tried not to throw-up, went and got a massage What limited your ability to perform faster: I have gotten fat over the winter Event comments: I love this race and it was a great way to kick off the season. I had pretty low expectations coming into this race so to finish about 3.5m off of last year when I was in much better shape is pretty satisfying. Hopefully work will slow down and I can use this race to kind of kick things up the rest of this year. Last updated: 2007-05-21 12:00 AM

As my first race of the year, I just tried to remember everything that I normally do. Arrived at the race site about 6:30, which gave me plenty of time to check in and set-up transition
Took the bike out for an easy spin just to run through the gears. I have to make a slight RD adjustment when I put on the racing wheels so just wanted to make sure it was shifting well (which it was). Did a little running as well but wasn't too worried about being warmed up as I expected to take the 1st 5k slow.
