Swim
Comments: Water was cold! Took a couple of hundred metres to get decent control of my breath. Swim start was a bit of a surprise. There wasn't a one minute warning. There was "Ok we're going to start soon, " then maybe a minute later, "3, 2, 1, GO!" I wasn't even up to my knees in the water yet. The lake bed and beach were a bit stony. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Turnaround was in the middle of a three-way stop, T-intersection. There was some fine gravel on the road. I didn't gear down enough, went slowly around the turnaround marker, cranked on the pedals, spun out my rear wheel, and went down on my left side. Recovered quickly and carried on. Jarred my left elbow and right thumb a bit. Thumb was sore after, but elbow was not. Thumb still a little bit sore with some movements a week later. What would you do differently?: Not crash! Slow and easy at the turnaround! I wouldn't have put my gloves on my aero bars and then put them on when on the bike. I didn't really need the gloves. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Strong run for me. What would you do differently?: Know the course a little bit better. Wasn't quite sure about some of the turns until I was making them. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Riding 131 km two days before. Event comments: Aside from the the swim and run being a little short and the bike turnaround being a little sharp, this was a great race. Kudos to the organizers and volunteers. I had fun. Last updated: 2007-05-22 12:00 AM
