Swim
Comments: Since I broke my collarbone and subsequent surgery in June I have been in the water one time prior to this race. I knew going in I would not set any time records. I started out with Phillip and soon got ahead of him. Tried to freestyle but soon resorted to a breast stroke, freestyle, sidestroke mix. Kept thinking that the goal was to get out of the water with the shoulder intact. My breathing and heart rate was fine during the swim and I came out feeling pretty good. Transition 1
Comments: I had to retreive my glasses from the glasses table at the water exit. I was able to jog to the bike and find it ok. A little slow in getting into socks due to cut grass/dew but overall ok. Bike
Comments: I have been riding regularly since I got Doctor approval and it showed here. My average of 20 mph plus is beyond my expectations. I was comfortable the whole time. I was passed by a few but passed a lot more. The hills here got to some but they were milder than where I have been training so I was able to do a lot of passing on the ascent. What would you do differently?: It would have helped if I had ridden the course before the race. I was much stronger on the return since I knew what to expect Transition 2
Comments: in and out. Had to turn the bike around to rack which took a few seconds. Had to run the length of the transition area to exit. Run
Comments: I have not run since mid June so this was as expected. My back started huting around half way and I just ran/walked it in. Phillip passed me about mile 2 so he gets bragging rights for a year. What would you do differently?: Train Post race
Warm down: Water What limited your ability to perform faster: Injury recovery. Actually not a bad performance from an injured, undertrained, and overweight 47 year old. Event comments: This is the best administered race I have attended. It will be on the list for next year. Last updated: 2007-05-23 12:00 AM

Both myself and my 15 year old son Phillip ran this race. I had registered proir to my bike crash in June and had been agonizining over weather to forfeit the entry fee or just run it in spite of my now pitiful run and swim fitness. My inability to walk away from a $60.00 entry fee won out and I decided to give it a GO.
I woke Phillip up at 4:30 and we drove down to PTC. My wife, Danielle and my son Ben came down later to spectate and cheer us on. Danielle's best friend lives in PTC and her husband is an avid triathlete so she had good company while we ran around in spandex.
Stood around with the field of 1000. Had to check in my glasses early so I was kind of blind blurry sea of people wearing black shorts and yellow caps. Warmup swimming not allowed due to lake levels and conditions.
