Swim
Comments: My swim started good but in the middle I went way off course and it cost me at least 2 minutes. I could have done so much better but I still swam decent. Never got tired and I thought it was pretty enjoyable. Except for going off course. What would you do differently?: Navigate better. Fog, then bright sunlight once it lifted, really made a difference. Need to watch my navigation. Transition 1
Comments: The run from the beach to T1 is quite long, but still did ok here. I felt a little off balance and slightly out of breath from running after the swim, but once I ran my bike out to the mount line I was fine. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I couldn't have asked for a better bike split today. Even thought, it turns out, my nutrition wasn't the greatest, I still had great speed up and down the hills and thru the course. It was long though. The Garmin said 13.02 per loop. So this made it a 26 mile course. My real average MPH was 20.9. But oh well, just to keep it consistent. One thing I'd like to point out is that last year the hills destroyed me. This year they seemed ALOT easier. What would you do differently?: Correct nutrition so I don't blow up 3 miles into the run. Transition 2
Comments: Just the usual. Throw and go. Of course the racks were so crowded I had to (eeks!!!) move a bike over so I could rerack in the same place. What would you do differently?: Get back sooner. Run
Comments: I was fine...running flat 9's for three miles...hills and all. Then BOOM. I hit the wall. Mile 4 took 12 minutes. I sorta recovered with two following negative splits...and 11 minute mile (this was the long 1-mile hill) and a 10:30 (downhill...ugh!!) but still waaaaaay off par for me. I actually thought I might not even beat my overall time from last year. I worked as hard as I could for the last .2 miles...but my heart rate was making my head pound and I was getting dizzy. I saw someone come up on me in the last 50 feet and I just sprinted as to not let them get in front. I crossed the line before that person, though I don't know who it was. What would you do differently?: I think it came down to my bike nutrition and the fact that I was trying to cram in as much nutrition early in the run. I just totally messed up. My running itself wasn't the real problem. I'm a 48 minute tri-10K runner...1:04 is just NOT acceptable. Post race
Warm down: I felt better after Ironman. Honestly. It was hot. I couldn't breathe when Di caught me at the finish line. My heart rate was in the 190's. I had to sit under a shower for 10 minutes to gain enough strength to get up. Had to lie down on a bench for a while too. I drank lots of gatorade and water to try and recover. Couldn't even think about food. What limited your ability to perform faster: Many many factors. I could go on forever about this, but I guess I'll just say that I need to figure out my bike nutrition and maybe some exercise-induced asthma problems I might have. Event comments: Hammerheads always deliver. I just wish I could. I'll be back next year. Last updated: 2007-05-23 12:00 AM

Got up, ate some breakfast, loaded stuff in the car, and off we went. Tonya and Matt in their car, along with our superstrapper Di. I went alone in my car. We stopped for some supplies along the way.
Not much. We were delayed by 35 minutes, so I wound up sitting around with the gang for a while. Of course, CJ showed up with his camera. No surprise there this time. I told Tonya and Matt the night before..."you just watch, he'll show up". And he did. :) What a guy!
