Swim
Comments: i was disappoined with this. i know i haven't been to the pool for any meaningful amount of time in months, but i was really hoping to do this quicker. oh well, it FELT pretty good at least. Still, I passed a handful of people, and didn't get passed by anybody, so that's pretty cool. What would you do differently?: spend lots more time in the pool. Transition 1
Comments: no problem getting through T1 quickly. What would you do differently?: nothing. Bike
Comments: I really got after it on the bike course this year. Staying aeor 95% of the time helps, too. Basically, it was the fastest hour of riding of my life. When I got out of the pool, I figured there were about 15 people in front of me on the course. My goal was to pick off as many as possible. I was able to track down 8 or 9 people that I recall. I did get passed by the eventual winner, though. I took most of my gel early on, and squeezed out the rest of it about mid way through the race. I sipped water throughout. In general, I really worked my ass off out there because I knew I didn't have to run. What would you do differently?: I might have taken a 2nd gel. But who knows how my stomach will respond when I'm working that hard. so i'll say... nothing. Transition 2
Comments: Got right to the rack quickly where i tagged my teammate, Brad. He handled the running portion because i'm still timid about going too hard on my iffy ITB. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: So basically Brad tore the course up, posting the 3rd fastest time of the entire field, and the #1 time in the team division. I don't care whether or not people bike before they ran, I'm damn impressed with how fast my teammate ran. he was blazing! What would you do differently?: shoot! nothing! i couldn't have picked a better runner, haha! Post race
Warm down: After relaxing for a bit, we went for a 2mi jog just for fun. also, I got to meet goobergirl98 and her family. that was awesome! it's always fun to put the names and faces of my "internet friends" together. What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of time in the pool. that was the only limiter, I think. otherwise, everything was above and beyond! Event comments: Another race... another 2nd place finish. I've got quite the pattern developing. This is a lot of fun, though. I would recommend it for the novice, or season triathlete. ate my standard bowl of maple and brown sugar oatmeal and made my pb&j sammich. loaded up my gear, and got to the venue about 5AM.
since i started just 5 mins after the first person, it made sense for me to actually swim a few laps in the pool first. it was nice to get used to the water.
