Swim
Comments: Swim was great. The water was calm and warm. Forced to run into the water longer than planned because no opening in front of me to dive in and swim. Worked out because I could run faster than those swimming and a perfect opening in the front of the pack opened up for me to dive an start swimming. I felt strong coming out of the water although I could feel the exertion in my arms. Did not use hardly any kicking to preserve my legs for the bike and run. What would you do differently?: Go harder without trying to reserve some energy. Transition 1
Comments: Felt good about the transition. What would you do differently?: Need to learn to jump onto the bike and put shoes on faster - maybe have them already clipped onto bike. Bike
Comments: Legs burned for the first mile or so but peddled through it and settled in. Felt good passing a lot of people who were both in the Sprint and Olympic class. What would you do differently?: Unsure. Definitely need to practice drinking on the bike, felt unstable so I did not drink as much as I should thus began the run a bit dehydrated. Also, I lost my Gu gel because I tucked it under the leg of my shorts and it fell out so I had not Gu to sustain me on the bike and especially the run afterwards. Transition 2
Comments: Felt pretty quick but took a short breather prior to heading out for the run. As I removed my bike shoes, I discovered that my blsiters had started bleeding and turned out to be very painful during the run. I really felt the missing Gu gel and water from the bike portion of the race -- next race, need to start the run hydrated and fueled rather than trying to catch it up while running in such heat. What would you do differently?: Need to learn to get out of my bike shoes and jump off the bike while moving into the dismount area to reduce transition time rmoving my shoes. Need to try riding without socks. Run
Comments: It was incredibly hot and humid by the time the run started. The blisters on the top right side of my feet were bleeding and made it very painful to run at all. My legs felt like lead in molasses and the outsides of my shins were twinging. I took a lot of walking time. What would you do differently?: Need to train more on running and not wear leather flip flops in the humidity and heat two days prior to a triathlon giving myself blisters. Post race
Warm down: Walked around the park and got my legs massaged (10-min massage provided by the race committee). Very nice touch to the triathlon event as a whole. Cleaned the sand out of the blisters that had now become pretty nasty holes in my feet - wearing shoes was going t What limited your ability to perform faster: The run killed me. I'd like to totally blame it on the blisters and the heat/humidity but it also felt like I was not prepared for the run. Event comments: This was an awesome race (aside from the run which had nothing to do with the race itself). It was well organized and very nice to participate in. I plan to compete in this event again. Traveling to Hawaii wasn't horrible. Last updated: 2007-05-24 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 am because the transition area closed at 5:45 am prior to the elite start. Had a bagel with peanut butter and a banana. Lots of water. Weather was already warm and we walked over to the Ala Moana Park from our hotel for the triathlon.
Prior to 6 am, I got into the water and swam about 200 yds. Also got into the water and swam about 200 yds at about 7:25 prior to the 7:45 start time for the sprint.
