Swim
Comments: Once again I was not comfortable with everyone around me as I did not like bumping into people, so I just kind of stopped and let everyone go around me. I could not get my breathing going the way I want to and since I am now getting form correcting lessons I am haveing some problems switch from bad habbits to good form. I finally got into a rhythm with about 100 to go. I did end up besting my last year time by a 1 minute. What would you do differently?: I think I will try to start out at the very front because even though, I did not like bumping I ended up swimming through people. Transition 1
Comments: Damn I am slow, however I did have to run a while with the bike as I had pretty far to go. I did transition about 19 seconds faster this time. What would you do differently?: Not sure what I would do. Bike
Comments: I rode the course about 10 beats above my lactate threshold. I could never get my heart rate down after the swim. I was able to race at a heart rate that I did not think I would be able to sustain so that is a plus. What would you do differently?: I lost time on my cornering so I need to figure that out so that I do not lose so much speed. I also thought I went faster than 20.5 but I have not checked my edge 305 to find out if it measured with what they have listed. Not much I can do differently. I went from 18.8 mph to 20.5 mph this year. I am pretty happy with that for my second year. Hopefully next year I will be at 21.5 Transition 2
Comments: It'a a transition what more is there to say? Run
Comments: I was worried for my run, because I biked with a higher heart rate than I thought I could sustain. I started off my run around lactate threshold and kept that pace until about 1 mile to go when, my legs came around and than I pushed it. I did the all out sprint at the end. I could just feel that someone was behind me and did not want to take the chance it was another clydesdale who could pass me. Turns out it was because I beat him 2 seconds. What would you do differently?: I think given how I was feeling I could have dropped my pace another 10-15 seconds per mile. However it would have not changed my clydesdale overall standings. Post race
Warm down: Ate some pizza and waited for my wife to finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: My swim limited my performance because I cam out of it with a pretty high heart rate. Event comments: I am not that competitive by nature, but my wife and I are a little competitive this year against each other. I thought I might be able to beat her on the sprint because I would be able to put some time into her on the bike and hold her off on the run. She has placed 1st in her age division at her 2 previous sprint triathlons, so this was going to be no easy task. Well as a ex-collegiate runner she ended up beating my by 2 minutes and taking 2nd in her age group against the toughest competition she has had yet. However I think my wife is a bike shark (kind of like a billiards shark, she pretends she is not that good but come race time kick s some but.) When I go on training rides with her, she will make it seem like she is doing the best she can, but when she rides alone or in races she always kicks the pace way up. I am really proud of her, however since I promised her a race bike and wheels like mine I am worried that the free speed she is going to gain is going to take away any advantage I might have. Oh well their is always next year when this race will be the start of taper IMCDA. Last updated: 2007-05-25 12:00 AM

Woke up 2 1/2 hours before race start. Had a banana and a clif bar. Set transition up, talked to a few racers I recognized and checked my bike over multiple times to make sure the drive down from Ames and rain had not messed anything up.
Went to get in line at the porta-potty's because I had to go real bad and than rembered, ahhhhh just go do a warmup swim instead.
