Swim
Comments: Unlike my first race I chose to get in the middle of the scrum this time rather than hanging back. Good lesson in swimming while protecting yourself and your space. Caught a mouthful of ocean water a couple of times, but no big problems. Overall felt pretty good about my time. What would you do differently?: Nothing...I just need to get better. Transition 1
Comments: I haven't done but one other tri, but this seemed like a pretty long run from the water to the transition area. I was able to jog the entire way until I hit the pavement, which was a little rough on the feet. This was a much faster transition than my first tri, but I still have a lot of room for improvement here. Bike
Comments: Lot of room for improvement here. Felt like it took me a while to get in a rythme. On the first bridge I wasn't in a high enough gear and had to grind too hard. I didn't make the same mistake twice and did better going over the Clearwater bridge. I enjoyed the ride south through Clearwater & Bellaire having lived in the area years ago. As others have mentioned, the Bellaire Causeway bridge was a bit dicey due to the construction. I didn't have any problems as most of the cars were being held up by a police officer when I came through, though I did pass a car that was stuck behind another cyclist. Hopefully by next year this construction is finished. What would you do differently?: I just have to train more and continue to improve. Finding a place to ride some hills would be a big help. Transition 2
Comments: Not bad here. I was going to have some Gu in this transition but couldn't find it. I was sure it was tucked in the side pocket of my bag and lost a few seconds looking for it. Fortunately I really didn't need it...I think! Run
Comments: This was tough. First, running the first 3/4 mile through beach sand was no fun. Fortunately I've done some running on a dirt road with some patches of soft sand around my house. That may have helped, but it's hard to tell. All I know is it was taking all I had to keep moving and not walk. By this time it was blazing and I was feeling it, but I never stopped. What would you do differently?: I need to do more running as part of my training. Post race
Warm down: Got some gatoraide, some water, and some food from the hospitality tent. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fitness level! Event comments: I enjoyed this race. Good location and good course. Look forward to doing it again next year. Last updated: 2007-05-25 12:00 AM

My brother and I stayed at the Sheraton Sand Key next to the park. Nice hotel, but no one in our room slept much due to all the noise in the hallway during the night. We got up at 5:15 am to get ready and have breakfast.
We rode out bikes from the parking lot to the park; checked in, got body marked, picked up our chips and set up our transition areas. Did some light stretching and made visit to the bathroom and then headed out to the beach.
