Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 17/174
Age Group = M 20-24
Age Group Rank = 2/
Pre-race routine:

Early morning wake up, peanut butter on whole wheat, orange, GU20 and water.
Event warmup:

Light jog back to the car to retrieve the sunglasses left on my trunk. Stretching, and a quick swim.
Swim
  • 18m 30s
  • 805 meters
  • 02m 18s / 100 meters
Comments:

OWS is a completely different world. Wasn't bothered by not being able to see, but my sighting was awful. Swam off course a few times which most likely cost me the age group win.
What would you do differently?:

RELAX! Better sighting, more OWS practice
Transition 1
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

A little trouble grabbing the tail for my zipper, but got the suit half off before I hit the transition area. Strapped on the cycling shoes in T1 and ran in them up the hill. Bike mount was good, clipped in and was off.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, just work on being smoother and quicker.
Bike
  • 39m 51s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 20.33 mile/hr
Comments:

Rode well, pushed some bigger gears than usual which felt nice. Got some wrong directions at the turn around which cost me about a minute. Caught the guys I was with, passed them and got going.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, happy with ride. More time in the saddle is needed, the cycling time has got to drop.
Transition 2
  • 00m 32s
Comments:

Smooth transition, got off the bike ran it in and racked it pretty quickly. Runners went on smooth, grabbed a quick drink and took off.
What would you do differently?:

Skip trying to put a gel in my jersey pocket, it wasnt needed and added precious seconds to my time.
Run
  • 20m 50s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 06m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Smoked the run course. Not my fastest 5k, but I turned in the fastest run time of the day.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, pushed as hard as I could, made up time and passed a good number of racers.
Post race
Warm down:

Short run, and walked the course backwards for a bit. Stretching while talking to other athlets and proud parents of other racers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Time in the saddle and OWS practice. A basic lack of swimming for the past week or so really hurt my race performance.

Event comments:

Overall a great day, race was organized and well managed. Finisher medals to every participant. Great breakfast buffet for all the athletes. I will definitely race it again next year.
