Swim
Comments: The start was about 1/2 hour late to start and the wind kept picking up creating 1'+ swells. Course was well marked, organized and supervised. At the start I tried to set away from the throng by staying to the outside but after rounding the first buoy and the waves pushing in that was not possible. On that stretch ran across/into a few people. My poor sighting ability got me running into the second buoy. After I was around the second buoy got off course a bit, but figured out the waves were pushing in I need to angle a bit more. What would you do differently?: This being my first salt water swim I was still pretty happy about how I did. Practice sighting with waves in the ocean would help. Transition 1
Comments: Practiced transition the night before and seemed to help. I think it was was my best T1 so far. My T1 time was MOP for the race. I chose not to wear socks with my bike shoes. Forgot to slide my cat eye onto the bike! When I put on my shoe it was on the inside had to remove shoe and slide my cateye on the bike. Also didn't use cycling gloves. What would you do differently?: Slide cat eye on before race. Need transition check list. Bike
Comments: 10 miles out felt pretty good and then it seemed the wind picked up and I was tiring. At times on the last leg I was dropping down to 12mph struggling to stay around 16mph. On the 8-10 miles out was averaging 17.5-18.5mph and 20+ for small bits. What would you do differently?: Just need to get better on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: Took bike down wrong rack aisle, I was one row off/early. Used no socks on my sneakers also What would you do differently?: Pick a landmark and read row markers better. Run
Comments: Should be running faster, that's about my 1/2 marathon pace. HR was about 85%. Just not enough juice in the tank. Due to no socks did get blister on the inner right foot, but didn't really notice until I put on my flaps after the race. What would you do differently?: Push till I puke or pass out ;) Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to train more and smarter. Event comments: Great race! Nice park and water way area. I hope to have the opportunity to do it again. Maybe stay at a hotel next time to get more sleep before the race and get some warm up time. Last updated: 2007-05-27 12:00 AM

3:50am Wake Up
My wife, makes the strongest cup of coffee she's ever made in 25 years of marriage!
Had a bit of yogurt
4:30am My friend Jim joins me for the ride from Orlando to Melbourne.
6:10am arrive and park
unload bike and go to packet pickup and transition
By the time I picked up the packet and set up the trans area it's 10 minutes until race and the coffee has kicked in! Where are the porta-let's! Oh my goodness there's only ONE facility with one stall! The line is about 20 deep and there's a decided limited by those waiting for the stall to allow only a 2 minutes per person in the stall!! WT*! Time to practice mind over matter and just head to the swim start. No warm up! Again! Got get at the races earlier!
