Swim
Comments: The water was brackish and looked like coke in a glass. You couldn't see your hand in front of your face. People were just running into people until things got spread out because there was no visibility in the water. A pretty good storm also rolled in and really kicked up the chop. What would you do differently?: The race prior to this one the sun was so bright I couldn't see the marker buoys in the glare coming to the finish. I bought some tinted swim goggles for this race but it was so stormy it was alomost dark outside! Once again I could hardly see the markers until it brightened up. I will have a regular set of goggles along with the tinted. Transition 1
Comments: I took my time on the transition due to this being my first iron distance race. I will stay take my time on the next one but I can definately pick up the pace. What would you do differently?: Just pick up the pace a little Bike
Comments: The hills were pretty impressive! What would you do differently?: I was definately slower that I thought I would be. But I was just trying to pace myself. I will push the hills harder in training next year and get more outdoor rides in not so much trainer time. Transition 2
Comments: Again took my time here, I was happy to be off the bike but was a little nervous about the run! I had never even run a marathon before. Its all been training up to this point!!!! What would you do differently?: Nothing on this transition. It felt good to take a little break and take it slow before the run. Run
Comments: OMG!!!!!! I felt fine the first 3mile then I started getting the worst stomach cramping and gas I have ever had. This was very discouraging to have this happen so soon in to the run. It didn't help set the tone for the rest of the race. I really started to feel like I wouldn't have enough time to finish. This started to lead my thinking to why even bother to keep going. I guess that was the point at which this whole thing was all about to me. When I finally got to the point where I could think rationally and knew that I had enough time to pull this off my spirits really lifted (although I still felt like crap). Finishing was sooo great!!! I also had alot of support from my friends who were there and from the volunteers. I couldn't have done it without them. What would you do differently?: Figure out my nutrition better and work my legs out more in the weight room. Post race
Warm down: Walk and massage! What limited your ability to perform faster: Nutrition and weight romm work Event comments: The volunteers were the best I have seen. I loved the themed water stops and all the costumes. Every lap you would still have to smile no matter how bad I felt when you saw them. They stayed until the very end!!!!!
