Total Time = 1h 38m 13s
Overall Rank = 378/639
Age Group = Novice
Age Group Rank = 8/21
Pre-race routine:

Not much. I got up around 5:20, showered (helps me wake up), ate some pop tarts, toast (with honey), and some peanut butter crackers, and headed out to the race.
Event warmup:

Again, not much of a routine here. I got my transition area ready, walked down to the starting area, and did a few stretches.
Swim
  • 16m 42s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

I would've swum a little harder. I was worried I would poop out on the swim, but it turned out easier than I thought it would be. The water condition was calm and great temperature. I also would've gone to the outside immediately to avoid the cluster of people around the buoy.
Transition 1
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

I was kind of amped up and everything I did seemed uncoordinated.
What would you do differently?:

I definitely did not anticipate having sand on my feet during the transition. I think I will actually bring a bottle of water or something to help get the sand off so I don't put my socks and shoes on with sand. I did have a towel, and I used it, but it was diffidcult to wipe off.
Bike
  • 47m 43s
  • 15 miles
  • 18.86 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

I felt like I went pretty hard on the bike. I passed a lot of people, but I would've like to start out a little quicker and make my turn-around a little faster.
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
What would you do differently?:

I forgot to take my helmet off when I was running out of the transition area. I would like to remember next time.
Run
  • 29m 14s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

It was tough to transition into the run. It took me about a half mile to loosen up. I took a drink at the halfway point but just ended up spilling it all over myself instead of drinking it. I don't think I really needed it anyway. The sand made it a little tougher coming back.
What would you do differently?:

I probably could've pushed harder on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water and walked around for a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

First, not knowing what everything would feel like doing it all in a row. That made me go conservatively on the swim and run for fear of losing my energy. I could've definitely pushed harder on both of those events. On the bike, I did just about as good as I could have at the time.

Event comments:

This was my first tri ever, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and think it was a great race. I can't wait to do some more!
