Swim
Comments: This time includes a 1/4 mile run from swim finish to transition. My water time was 27:02. I am disappointed that this wasn't faster. I had a hard time navigating after the farthest out bouy, through the straight shot to the beach. I was all over the place. What would you do differently?: Navigate straight. Transition 1
Comments: Major calf cramps trying to get off my suit. This is a bit slow for me, not sure why. Bike
Comments: This was a hard bike for me. I did manage to cut 10:00 from my bike time last year, even factoring in the 2 mile difference, but I was struggling on the 3 mile hill on the back stretch. My bike wasn't shifting right and I couldn't get it into my big gear for the longest time, then once I did manage to get it there, I was afraid to move it out of the big gear, knowing what big hills were coming up, and I grinded up most of the hills in it. It blew out my legs. I did hit 41.4mph on one of the downhills and that was fun. I HATE that I come out of the swim relatively fast and then get passed by EVERYONE on the bike and run. It is really demoralizing and I struggled with that mean voice in my head telling me I was a POS. I was so discouraged. I know I need work on my bike, but that makes it brutal. What would you do differently?: Train more hills, I suppose. What I always say. Transition 2
Comments: Slow T2 for me. Not sure why. Run
Comments: This run sucked. I did fine until mile 5.5 and then I got the worst side cramp of my life. I NEVER get side cramps, but this was really debilitating...like a knife through my side. I tried breathing it out, and walked for 10 seconds twice, but I finally just applied my mental "ice block" and talked my body out of it being there. There was nothing else to do. They also changed the course, so that when you thought you were at the finish, you actually had a small loop (400m) to do around the pond. That was mentally hard. What would you do differently?: Do the aquabike. Post race
Warm down: walked around, water, great post race meal. What limited your ability to perform faster: I am not fast enough at bike or run to be competitive at this distance. I can kick butt on most swims, but in an Oly, that doesn't get you much. Truth be told, enough excuses. I just don't train enough to be good at Oly's and if I want to continue to make my husband and kids my priority, it's not realistic for me to train more than I am now. Event comments: This is one of the best directed races I've ever done and has been for the past several years. Last updated: 2007-05-29 12:00 AM

Does walking around count?
