Pre-race routine:

My panicky sister was freaking out that we would be late. So she made me leave the house WAY too early. I think I got up around 4am. Walked/fed the dogs, took a shower, packed the car (since I would be leaving straight from Boulder), and then we drove up. Once in Boulder we parked in a super-secret location fairly close to the start and walked over. Got ourselves all set up, checked our bags with FedEx, hit the porta potties, then had 30 minutes to stand around before HER wave started and 50 minutes for mine. Yup, WAY too early.
Event warmup:

Lots of walking around and some stretching to kill time.

Bleh. Not a good race for me. I'm hoping I was just tired. I took off at a "sustainable fast" pace. This is a 10k after all. The first mile went well and I was feeling good. The second mile seemed to have a lot of hills but I still felt okay when I got to the two mile marker. At about 2.25 I got this AWFUL side stitch. I never get those. I ended up having to walk it out and I was just never the same after that. I basically jogged the rest. Mentally and physically I was just done. The course isn't exactly easy either. I swear that every time I turned a corner there was a slight uphill to run. Am I crazy? The splits/AHR really show that the pace SHOULD have been sustainable (183 is my LT) but just wasn't my day. The later miles are obviously easier...165 is about the cap of my Z1.
What would you do differently?:

More run training.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around Folsom. Sat in the stands a lot.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of run training.

Event comments:

Just ticking off another thing on my "to-do" list. I have always wanted to do this race. So I did. I probably would not do it again. It was a nice one-time thing, but honestly I didn't see anything spectacular enough about it to warrant the butt-pain that 50,000+ runners generates. It was very well organized and all, but just no better than any other race I have done. I guess it didn't help that I had a bad day. But my goal was to just do it, so I guess I did that!
