Pre-race routine:

1/2 a mini bagel. Went to bed too late. I think we were up past 11:30pm. We were having too much fun. Had a great pasta dinner. Thanks Karen!
Felt like a family dinner - Mike, Tomo, TC, Karen, SIL & Alyie.
Event warmup:

Paking lot filled up fast. Had to walk a little over 1/2 mile.
Swim
  • 46m 9s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was really nervous about the swim. When I took a look at the distance, I started doubting myself. The water was cold and I started to panic internally. Knew that I wanted to achieve this goal and was determined to do it. Fix - backstroke until I could get myself together. Kept trying to see if I could get my breathing rythem. Took a lot longer than I hope for, but I finally got it after the triangular buoy. ABOUT TIME. Once that all came into place, I felt relaxed and comfortable. Swam to the beach where there was no more room to stroked.
What would you do differently?:

Get more comfortable with OWS - regardless of body of water. Swim prior to the race to adjust to temp & darkness.
Transition 1
  • 04m 58s
Comments:

Should've had the stripper take my wetsuit off. Since it was a little big, no problem putting on & off, but it got stuck on my feet.

Took a GU in - good idea. Was very relaxed at this point. Was happy to get the swim over with. Was so excited to see Karen cheering for me.
What would you do differently?:

Take advantage of resources.
Bike
  • 2h 00m 51s
  • 27.34 miles
  • 13.57 mile/hr
Comments:

Was happy to get on the bike. Felt like there was something wrong. At first I thought it was a flat. Ignore the problem and kept going. Aside from knowing that all was not a 100%, I enjoyed the ride. It was a tough course - very hilly. Devil Hill was tough but I just took it nice & slow. Was determine to ride it up. Which I pushed it a little more. Was a little too relax. Wanted to save my legs for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Get better intuned w/the bike and its components. Use clips & bike shoes.
(mine didn't come on time). Push myself more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Forgot my race belt.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was a simple T2 since other than putting my bike on the rack and taking my helmet off there was nothing else to do.
Run
  • 1h 11m 5s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs felt heavy but I was determined to run the entire race portion. I also made myself stop at all the water stations. Plus, I had to pee :)
Not sure if that was the way to go. Normally I just run through them. Since this was my first OLY, I didn't want to bonk. Enjoyed running with several people. My favorite part was seeing TC on the run! GO TC.
Plus, there no feeling like running through the finish line. I could hear HOT TAMALE at the turn to the finsih chute. It was great. The entire gang was there. Mike, Tomo, TC, Karen, SIL & Alyie.
What would you do differently?:

Stop talking and focus on the run. Don't be so conservative.

Event comments:

This was the most fun I've had at a race! We were all in a happy silly mood and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The rely team of Alyie, SIL and Tomo - rocked this race!! 2nd place and they had 1st in the bag. A little mishap. Having my husband participate in the same event was great. I knew he was a little worried about me and knew he was cheering for me. Having my training buddy along - was awesome. TC you're the best.

Thank you to all of you who have been sooooo supportive. You're inspire made this happen!!

The volunteers were great - especially the kids. This wouldn't happen with out them.
