Swim
Comments: Had a hard time sighting - the buoys were small and my goggles fogged up. What would you do differently?: Wear new goggles. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty typical transition Bike
Comments: It usually takes me about six miles to really get going and feeling good on the bike. In a race this short I spent the first half of the race getting warmed up. What would you do differently?: I suppose I could warm up prior to the race. Transition 2
Comments: I couldn't find my rack position - I wasted about 10 seconds here. Once I did I moved quickly. What would you do differently?: Do a better job of mentally marking my rack position Run
Comments: I knew as soon as I headed out on the run that I didn't have my good legs. I suffered most of the way and got passed a lot. I was in fourth place in my age group heading out but two guys passed me and I ended up sixth. But my goal was to come in at under 1:10 and I looked at my watch on the home stretch and it said 1:08 something so I hauled but to the finish. To me, running at the end is the hardest thing about triathlon. What would you do differently?: Lose five pounds and do more interval run training. Maybe pop a caffeine tablet prior to racing. Post race
Warm down: Drank a pre-mixed bottle of Endurox R4 (fruit punch flavor is da bomb) What limited your ability to perform faster: First race of the year and not in the best shape yet. Could lose about five pounds to be in better race shape. More training will make that happen. Event comments: This is a good short race. It offers a rolling course and is well run. I have a liquid breakfast before every race. It consists of a bannana, frozen strawberries and blueberries, apple juice, protein powder and maltodextrin powder. Blend it up as a smoothie along with a multivitamin.
