Swim
Comments: swim was crappy. First 200 meters seemed ok, then past the first bouy, had goggle issues (kept leaking in the right eye), which led to contact issue--for which had to call out for a kayaker, but by the time the kayaker got to me i fixed my contact. So, from that point on, just really couldn't find my groove. My goggles still kept giving me issues. What would you do differently?: I would try to get some more ows time in. Transition 1
Comments: There was quite a bit of distance from swim exit to T1. Most of it was uphill and in grass that had just been cut. Had to walk part of it. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Bike
Comments: Bike is my favorite. For the first mile concentrated on getting down fluids and a carb boom. Then it was time to shake and bake. The last two hills were tough, but sat and biked thru it. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Transition 2
Comments: Not much to say. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Run
Comments: Run was tough...wasn't prepared for the heat and humidity. Didn't like running this course. What would you do differently?: Bring fuel belt and my own water. There was very little water support on the course. Post race
Warm down: Water!! Ice cream and cookies!! On the drive home stopped for bbq to go and chowed it down at the casa and chased it with two beers....oh yeah... What limited your ability to perform faster: Didn't hydrate enough...had major issues on the swim--didn't really get a chance to do much ows prior to race. Event comments: Overall a pretty good race. Am a little freaked out about it because I signed up for the Longhorn Olympic, and it is the same course, but twice the distance....The swim took alot out of me and so did the run...Hopefully I can make it work in a little over two months. Got up and dressed. Coffee. Left sister's house at 5:30 am and arrived at race site a little after 6 am. Ate PB&J sandwich and set up bike and stuff in transition area by 7 am.
Not much...walked down to the water and swam a little bit...water was quite warm. Noticed that the boat ramp that we are starting from was very slippery and there was alot of hydrilla...
