Pre-race routine:

I talked my friend Sandy into running this with me. She is an internist/sports doc from Idaho. She has run forever and calls herself a slogger. This was her second 5K ever because she doesn't like to race. We met in the hotel lobby at 5:15 and rode the bus over to the race site.

They hold a 5K every year at this meeting...it is the American College of SPORTS medicine afterall. The group is made up of MDs, PhDs of everys sort, PTs, ATC....just about anyone who has anything to do with sports med can join. I love this meeting because it is so diverse
Event warmup:

Comments:

I asked Sandy if she wanted to run together or not. She really wasn't into that. I think she was afraid of holding me back. Hows that for a joke!!! I started out really strong for me and ran the first mile in 9:51. It is really hot and humid here and it started to get to me. I walked the water station at the half way point and was at about 15 minutes...excellent for me but I was wheezy and hot and I felt like I was going to throw up. I took a walk break at the 19 minute mark then fell into a 4:1 run walk. Sandy was right behind me and I figured as I was feeling like poo and I wasn't going to do anything special this race I might as well let her catch up to me and we could finish together so we did. It was nice.

Mile 1 9:51
Mile 2 11:53
Mile 3 12:48
0.1 1:12
What would you do differently?:

Not much I can do with the humidity of LA after 2 days of rain!! I haven't eaten much the last week so that probably didn't help. All things considered it really wasn't a bad run for me.
Post race
Warm down:

We waited for a friend to finish as he was walking the course. Drank loads of water. Did not throw up

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat, humidity, EIA, injuries

Event comments:

SCORE ONE FOR TEAM TERRI!!!! It was fun I'm glad I did it and I think Sandy was glad I dragged her along. Plus I got to rub elbows with a really famous orthopod...the guy who walked. Contacts are always good :)
