Swim
Comments: This was my best swim of the season both pacewise and anxietywise. I started to the outside but got crowded in buy others who started to the outside. so I fought my way through the pack picking my way through the breaststrokers. At the top of the "U" I swam over a guy trying to get to a lifegaurd for a rest. As bizzare as this may sound I stopped and aopolgized! I was able to swing wide on the next turn and got into some free space (even though the lifegaurd kept herding us into a tighter pack. What would you do differently?: NOT A THING! This swim couldn't have gone better if i had scripted it (faster maybe :) ) Transition 1
Comments: Fastest T1 of the year! What would you do differently?: Not much. Maybe learn to mount on the fly and ride without socks. Bike
Comments: You all may laugh at this a bit. I forgot to zero my bike computer after my little warm up ride. So when I hit about the halfway point and I pressed the average button it showed 19.1. I was bummed and then kicked it into gear. By the time I was back to the far side of the lake I was up to 20.3. I was riding about as hard as i could go. No coasting on down hills and attacking hard on the up hills. By the time I got in to T2 the bike computer said 20.0 and i was very happy. Turns out I averaged 21.23 when you factor out the "pre-race" ride! I did what i set out to do. Ride hard. I so love my bike! What would you do differently?: Zero the bike computer (but then I wouldn't have gotten mad and dug a little deeper) Transition 2
Comments: Stopped ahrd enough in front of the mat that my rear whell came off the ground! I need to get some speed laces and learn to make that work Run
Comments: I certianly felt the effects of the hard bike. It took me a while to get into my groove and by then I was getting pretty hot. The cold sponges felt GREAT! What would you do differently?: I have not practiced my racewalking nearly as much as I should have this year. I was OK with my sub 12:30/mile pace but considering my first race this year was a sub 12 and I haven't exactly improved I need to spend more time working on this. I did break into a run going across the infield to the finish line (don't tell my knee surgeon) Post race
Warm down: Downed some water right away then had some food form the food tent. What a great spread! Hung out with the FCA group for a bit then went and sat near the finishline to watch for Kris. What limited your ability to perform faster: This was about the best race i could possible have run given where I am at with my conditioning and physical issues. I was quite pleased. Event comments: I certianly will keep this one on the docket for next year (maybe the long course :) ) Last updated: 2007-06-01 12:00 AM

Age Group Rank = 15/17
Got up at 4:30 am (the crack of stupid). I made a pot of coffee (Sumatra beans) and 3 frozen toaster waffles. I was out the door at 5 am for the race. (I packed the car the night before)
Set up my tranisition area, took a few mile ride, walked around a bit, prayed with the FCA group and warmed up in the lake swimming about half way to the first turn and back.
