Pre-race routine:

Got up at 6 am ..peanut butter sandwich , one Advil and gatorade rain.
Drove the one hour to the race. Set up the transition and waited for start.
Event warmup:

No warmup just got ready to good
Swim
  • 10m
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was weak as I really haven't trained enough. Ran into alot of slower people and never got inyo a rhythm. Normally I swim stronger but not this time.
Water temp and the lake were fantastic for swimming. Clear water , right temperature.
What would you do differently?:

More training in 50 yd pool
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

Because of my new tri suit this transition was simple. Long walk with bike to mounting area but well marked
What would you do differently?:

The trisuit was a big help
Bike
  • 53m
  • 16.1 miles
  • 18.23 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt comfortable as I really did not push it too hard. Very few people passed me and I passed several.
What would you do differently?:

Felt good but I could have pushed it harder.
Transition 2
  • 03m
Comments:

Nothing exciting just changed the shoes and went.
Run
  • 33m 17s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Plodded along on the run in the heat but never stopped so I was happy. I really wanted to walk but just slowed a little to recover.
What would you do differently?:

HRM would have helped
Post race
Warm down:

Water and a cookie

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Should have used HRM to help pace on bike and run. Probably would have helped to speed me up a little. I needed the HRM strap for number so I had to turn it around backwards for bike and run.

Event comments:

Fantastic venue and well organized. The volunteers were excellent. I would definitely recommend this race for newbies and will do this again next year.

Even with the distance away from home, the price ($26 for USA Tri members) made it well worth it.

The entire course was well planned and the support was great.

Course: Excellent with a lot of rolling hills. The beginning is a large hill which was tough because I like to warmup with a spin. The course was well marked and the volunteers were great with directions. When we turned into the wind it made it a little tough as I slowed to about 16 mph. But when the wind turned my speed increased.
