Swim
Comments: Swim was good for me, navigation went well. The boats out on the course helped with sighting. Didn't take in too much water. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: It was a good ride for me. Since this was my first 1/2 IM I took it relatively easy and only pushed it a few times. Enjoyed the ride, talked to people all along the way (those I passed and those that passed me). I was trying to save my legs knowing I still had 13.1 miles of running. What would you do differently?: Use a GU bottle instead of the packets. I has GU all over my hands by the end and my gear shift was a little sticky. Transition 2
Comments: Good T2. I felt like I took my time. Tied shoes, did a quick stretch and off I went. Stopped in the rest room before heading out on the run course. Run
Comments: I felt good on the run for the most part. Once or twice the stomach starting gurgling but I just slowed the pace a bit and a few minutes later everything went well so picked it back up. Post race
Warm down: Drank some water and had a few bananas. I waited about an hour after the race to eat anything heavier. We then headed back to Iowa (about a 4 1/2 hour drive). Event comments: Good race. Lots of volunteers on the course. My family went to the talk by Dick Hoyt the night before - it was great to meet him and listen to his story. The Race was well run and the people were helpful. Got up about 4:30am in the hotel, got packed had a bagel and a banana. My son (MILER), my wife and I all then headed out to the course. This was the first 1/2 IM for both of us so I was a little nervous - the goal was to finish and hopefully break 6 hours.
Did not do alot of warmup - just some stretching to begin with. Went into the water to check out the lake and get used to the water temp - probably swam 200 meters at the most.
