Total Time = 1h 16m 29s
Overall Rank = 185/466
Age Group = M 30-34
Age Group Rank = 16/37
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 0400 Ate my now traditional blueberry pancake plus banana bread. Left for race at 0500, ate apple on way and a Clif Bar about an hour before race.
Event warmup:

Managed to swim for about 2 minutes prior to start.
Swim
  • 13m 19s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

Managed to stay pretty much on course. Tried to go wide around bouys to keep from getting swam over by following waves. This was an average to below average swim time for me. 27/37 in Age Group
What would you do differently?:

More open water swims. Only my second of the year.
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Getting better here. Wore my shirt for the swim and did not change during race. Left shoes on bike, but not able to jump on bike yet.
What would you do differently?:

Practice jumping on bike and getting into shoes. Our tri jerseys should be in next week or the week after.
Bike
  • 34m 32s
  • 13 miles
  • 22.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Hit big bump in the first 1/4 mile and the aerobars came up again. Got them back down, only then I had adjustable aerobars for the rest of the ride. Got passed on some hills, but not a lot. There was one section where I thought I was riding in mud. It didn't look like a large hill or even much of an incline, but I was only going like 12mph. I thought, uh oh, am I bonking 1/2 way into the bike on a sprint course? But then I looked around and nobody else was going very fast either.
What would you do differently?:

I'm happy with my bike progression. Most people there have much better bikes than me and these seem to be the only ones passing me, so I ok with that. Maybe if I win the lotto twice, I can get me a real tri bike instead of my older roadie with aerobars.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Ran passes my rack about 4 racks too far before deciding that I was in the wrong area.
What would you do differently?:

Put some kind of distiguishable (sp?) something in my rack area.
Run
  • 25m 48s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Tried to take it easy for the first mile this time. Seemed to work and I ran a personal best 5K time, even for a stand alone 5K.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know, my running is coming along.
Post race
Warm down:

Talked to others, got some grub. Cheered on finishers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Experience and swimming. Getting better every time out. Need more open water swims and just time in the water period. Lack of expensive equipment (wetsuit, tribike)

Event comments:

Great venue, great atmosphere. Great people.
