Pre-race routine:

Well, I got up that morning and was really heavy so I knew I had some water weight on me.
Event warmup:

Warmup? I had some trouble finding the place and got there as they were starting the National Anthem, I literally racked my bike and threw on my goggles and ran to the beach!!
Swim
  • 29m 2s
  • 1094 yards
  • 02m 39s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I think it is a rule that there HAS to be a hill between the swim and the transition area! I have yet to do a Tri where you don't run up some steep hill after the swim!
Bike
  • 1h 24m
  • 22 miles
  • 15.71 mile/hr
Comments:

Was pretty happy with my bike, for me this is a decent ride. Back tire was a little low, didn't have time to really give my bike a once over because I got there late. At the end of the race it was pretty flat, probably cost me some speed. Very nice course with some tough hills
What would you do differently?:

Get there a little earlier and not get lost on the way!! All Three Sports is usually there to give your bike a once over if you want.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 57m
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

My watch had me running a 54 minute 10K. Either way, it was my best race 10K I have ever run. PR is just under 53 minutes, last OLY I ran my 10K was 1:08 so hell, I will take a 10 minute improvement any day!!
What would you do differently?:

About 1/3 through the run I looked at my HRM and saw that it was 131!! After cursing myself for dogging it I sucked it up and put in a respectable effort. HR is usually around 160 on the run, legs were a little heavy but I have done enough brick workouts that I was just being lazy.
Post race
Warm down:

Banana's, Water and 1/4 bagle.

Said hi to some of the NAMSC group.

Event comments:

As always, the Volunteers were excellent and the race was well planned.

Course: Terrible swim!! I'm used to the sun blinding you in Phoenix so my dark tinted goggles coupled with the overcast kept me from siting the bouy's. I had to actually stop, tread water and lift my goggles to sight them. At any rate, coupled with my serpentine swimming style I probably did a 1500meter so I guess my time really wasn't so bad!! (Laughing). Will get clear goggles for future races. Toward the end of the race, the women were swimming in my group and I was able to chase them to the finish and didn't have to do my own sighting.
