Cup of Coffee and 2 McDonald's Biscuits - Set up transition
Event warmup:

Swam about 200 meters as a warm up
Swim
  • 23m 58s
  • 1094 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Just like FL 70.3 I was pathetic in the water. I have mentioned it before but I have still not done anything about it ... I need a swim coach! If I could have knocked 2 minutes off of my swim than I would have made the podium. My breathing was very labored for the first 300 yards or so and then it settled down.
Transition 1
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

This was pretty pedestrian. I plugged the results into a spreadsheet and noted that my time was 13th in the M40-44 AG. I always get a little dizzy when I bend down to put my bike shoes on. Maybe this is a good reason to start trying to put my shoes on the pedals and get my feet in after leaving transition.
Bike
  • 1h 02m 21s
  • 22 miles
  • 21.17 mile/hr
Comments:

After averaging 22 MPH over 56 miles at FL 70.3 I felt confident that I could average the same for this race as it was less than half the distance but a little hilly. I felt very strong on the bike and passed many, many people (which goes without saying considering that I was so slow in the water). My GPS had the course at 22.5 miles which would have had me close to 22 MPH - overall, probably the best part of my race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

Another relatively slow transition - I was 18th in my AG. I forgot to bring my running shoes with the "quick laces" and this cost me some time as I had to tie my shoes.
Run
  • 44m 59s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

I now realize that my running performance at FL 70.3 was not poor due to my run fitness but, rather, because I did not fuel enough on the bike. I felt like a different person on this run and my results show. I ran a "second career" 10K PR after swimming and biking (I say second career because I went 41 and change as a teenager). It has been awhile since I ran a 10K but I guess I am still experiencing the benefits of my BQ marathon in March in Sarasota. My pace for the half marathon in my FL 70.3 was 8:17 and it was 7:15 in today's race ... it makes me wonder if the course was a little short.

Event comments:

Another great race put on by TriBlueSky. Georgians are so fortunate to have this series each and every summer!
