Run
Comments: The field was fairly small this year; probably 30 people. There must be a larger 5 or 10 K going on close by. Started off quick with a pack of 3 others. We stayed together for about 3/4 of a mile, then I passed 2 of the guys to put me in 2nd. A few hundred yards later one of the guys passed me back, then a young kid passed me. I stayed close to the kid until the turn around, at which time he laid on some extra speed. The hill coming up kicked my butt, so all I could do was maintain. From the turn around, I could see there was no one within 100 yards behind me, so I could tell that I pretty much had 4th. I tested the legs to see if I might move up to 3rd, but that wasn't going to happen. The kid was still pulling away, and while I had some gas left in the tank, it wasn't going to buy me THAT much time. Even though I had no one to challenge me for 4th, I pushed the end. Times were ALL over the board on splits because of the hill. 6:22, 6:58, 5:59. YOW!!! What would you do differently?: I suppose I should have known the course better to mentally prepare for the HILL. Post race
Warm down: Find a cup of water, walk around for a couple of minutes, change cloths, get in van, drive to McDonalds to get kids some food for the ride home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Gravity. Event comments: It's really just a "TINY" town race that is very nice. There's not much to poor little Falmouth, but that kinda adds to the race. They do a 1/2 marathon at the same time, and it HAS to be one of the toughest courses in the country...the describe it as flatter than PIKES PEAK...so I'm glad NOT to be doing that one. We'll be back....it's become a yearly trek. Last updated: 2007-06-04 12:00 AM
