Swim
Comments: great swim for me! Each lane got to pick our order. Keep in mind that they do not take this into account in the results (so if you start 5th, or 25sec back, you live with that time in your finishing time - they don't even have timing chips). I didn't want to go first, nor last. The guy shooting for 4:20 was our lead-off guy (I swim masters with him so I know he's faster than me). The young guy in our lane was confident and took second and the two behind me may have fudged a bit [more than I did] on their swim times because they didn't want to be in front of anyone. Solid, steady effort. It got kinda confusing bc the 1st guy fell off pace and we had to lap #s 4&5, but the feet I was on (#2) were solid and consistent (Jason - ended up taking 3rd overall - I swim with him at lunch sometimes and know he's faster than me) What would you do differently?: Stay more focued - I lost count early at 2/3 laps in. Oops. I tried to catch my pace by looking at the clock but the next wave was blocking my view. So I kept counting and looking for Jason to jump out. Transition 1
Comments: So I had to back into this time. No timing chips so I started my clock at the start of the ride. Got bike, t2, run splits. Know my swim time from looking at the clock when we got out. Long run out of the pool, outside, around the pool to t-area. Our wave had the first rack, which means the longest run with the bike to the mount line. I did everything at the rack (shoes, helmet, hrm, etc.). Was out of the pool before Brian (ended at 5th overall and he was first off the bike today) but he caught me at the rack - he flew by me. What would you do differently?: Practice mounting with the bike, and staging shoes on the bike Bike
Comments: Good bike. I was using this for my TT that I missed last week - so this was the focus of my effort for the day. Catch up with Brian at the mount (guess he had trouble with his shoes). I wanted to stay with him because I knew he would have a solid effort, so I worked to keep him within reach. Coming down the first hill out of T1 you can see the first mile or so and only saw a few people and know I was in the first half of our wave coming out of T1, so I know what I had to work with. Kept a high pace and cadence on the first hill. Brian started pulling away at the start of the downhill and I never saw him after that. Caught Jason on the downhill as he was getting back up to speed because of an issue with his chain. Stayed close to him but he dropped me in the turns at the end of the lap. Pushed the second hill and was felling pretty good. Slowed down a bit at the turn and grabbed water at the station because I was starting to feel a bit parched (forgot to put my bottle on the bike). Was changing places with this guy for the entire 2nd half of the second lap. That made the time go by faster and I believe we probably pushed each other a bit harder than if we were alone. What would you do differently?: reset my Garmin (I forgot to reset it after my warmup ride so the distance and time were off - confused me for a bit) Just need to work on my bike. Transition 2
Comments: 1:17. 161bpm ave tried to pull by feet out of the shoes as I was approaching the dismount, but was on a slight down grade and it just came too quickly. I didn't have issues with my shoes like I did at Pelican so this was a decent trans for me - although it can certainly be improved. I went to switch modes on my garmin and it shut off on me. turred it on and had to hit start/stop a few times to make sure it was running. this was annoying. Always something... What would you do differently?: can get faster (better dismount, faster with shoes). better work with my watch. Run
Comments: Was out of T2 with the buy I was exchanging positions with on the bike. I dropped him right away and he was out of sight when I looked back at a turn about mi 1 (he's a big guy). Could only make out one person in front of me about .5mi out probably. I saw [her] again about 1.2mi and then towards the finish. I didn't realize until the very end how quickly I was closing on her until at the finish. I would have had her with another tenth of a mile or two. Anyway - felt like I couldn't get to the pace I wanted to and it took me forever to get my HR up. I had a good pace throughout though and was pleased with my results in the end. could have been a bit faster hr What would you do differently?: focused more. harder effort sooner and real in the person in front of me Post race
Warm down: massage a lot of fluid and munchies. some spinning What limited your ability to perform faster: Transitions. early season. not training for these short efforts Event comments: great race. As this race grew over the years I had hoped they get with it and get chips, but I'm not so sure now. This is all about brining the community and introducing people to the sport. It great seeing so many newbies out there having a good time. A good, small group of competitors seems to come from year-to-year. Great post-race concert and party at "The Bay" afterwards. $30 entry fee (would have been less if I wouldn't have procrastinated) Last updated: 2007-06-05 12:00 AM

up at 5:30. espresso, muffin with two eggs, cheese. took the dog out. packed up my bag and rode to the course at ~6:35.
transitions mapped out by swim heats so I didn't have much choice, but turned out to be a very good location (esp. for t2).
Biked there, high cadence - no pick-ups though. I should have taken the bike back out after I got transition squared away, but ran out of time.
After transition setup did a very easy run a few miles with pickups to pace pace at the end.
Finished transition setup and headed to the pool. did about 300m with a few hard 25s.
