Swim
Comments: I need to plan better for this next time. I started in the middle, which was ok but pretty hectic. I really enjoyed the guy who grabbed my leg every third stroke. I also had a guy that pulled left alot who boxed me in on the left. Sooo, it took a little time to hop him and get pointed in the correct direction. Overall, I think my swim was ok, but I left some room for improvement. What would you do differently?: Get a better start position, don't get caught up in the craziness of the start. Transition 1
Comments: I decided at the last minute to not pre load my shoes on the bike due to lack of practice. Probably if I practice this, I could shave a few seconds and feel more comfortable int he run to the start. The pain was the length and narrowness of the T zone. This really hurt me on T2. What would you do differently?: I think I got assembled really fast, I actually was afraid I was missing something. Bike
Comments: I don't know why I went so slow but I did. I guess I was tired from the swim and T1 and the out of the box hill was tiring. I was very unimpressed with this result and need to focus on this for Mistletoe training. What would you do differently?: Train my butt off. I think I need to work on my hills and endurance. The sound of the HED wheels whizzing by me up hill is very humbling. I have a guy that I can train with that is solely a road cyclist and nationally ranked masters. I need to ride with him. Transition 2
Comments: due to the lack of any real T zone room, I got slowed down trying to get on my socks for the run, a necessity for me. I also then had to run up hill to exit the t zone, impeded by all of the other people still running with bikes. What would you do differently?: Go faster and practice. Run
Comments: You ugly metatarsal bones. They were killing me by the time I returned to the off road journey. I was really winded by this point, I had to avoid the spraying trail of vomit from a guy in front of me (don't eat at the barbeque place prior to the tri). I actually busted my butt, total yard sale, in the second to final turn of the dirt trail. A nice lady passed me and asked if I was ok. I only broke my pride. The hills were not fun and I did some brief walking. Overall, disappointed. What would you do differently?: Get in better shape, get an orthotic for my shoes, not fall in the dirt (at least it wasn't in front of the camera). I really need to work on my running as well. There are certainly alot of better tri'ers than me and it showed as they ran past me like they were still on their bike. I also wore my drink belt that I didn't need here at all. Metnally this slowed me down. Post race
Warm down: Cleaned off the dirt and blood from my knee, ate a banana and orange and drove home. The honey do list was more important to my wife than me stopping for barbque (I so wanted to meet you guys). What limited your ability to perform faster: It was my second triathlon and I guess I can't complain since I did better than my first by 4 minutes. Event comments: I really enjoyed this race. I don't like the run through the dirt and I think the t zones still need to be worked out. The volunteer corp was great and deserve a really big hand. This is not an easy drive to just go pass out water or collect trash, so they deserve a medal as well. I have had a lot weighing on me with my father dying 2 weeks ago. I wrote his initials in red over my heart (since he died of sudden cardiac arrest at 63). While I think he took pleasure in my wipe out, I plan to continue to put his name on me for each race. I want to remember that the health benefits from having the racing goals will help me avoid the same situation he had. I met some great folks from the BT board (Dan and Felix are really nice guys). I hope to meet more at Mistletoe. Last updated: 2007-06-05 12:00 AM

Woke up around 5:30 am and made a bowl of oatmeal for the ride. Easy drive from ATL. Packed everything the night before so pretty simple getting out. Once there, I set up my transition camp (which was so cramped it was ridiculous), walked the transition area so I could figure out entry and exit, etc.
Swim out to the first set of buoys, general stretching, praying.
