Comments: The WIDEST lanes ever. Still, two people came at me in my lane. One was a back-stroker who I avoided and the other I didn't see until I knuckled their head. oops! I passed 10-15 on the swim, but only finished 30 seconds faster than what I reported. What would you do differently?: I practiced bilateral breathing and should have done it - but I just did my normal right side only ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Whay did I fiddle with my bike computer for 30 seconds? I don't know. I chose not to wear gloves against my earlier plans - turned to be a good decision. What would you do differently?: Remember to reset my computer before the race, or just forget about it. ![]() Bike
Comments: I had significant cable stretch from a recently replaced rear derailleur cable. Honestly, it probably didn't affect my time too much. The flat, straight course let me stay in aero for most of it though. My new seat was perfect (first time riding on it, I know I know, that wasn't smart). I'm still poor on the bike, but am improving. I was up 3 mph from a race two months ago over the same distance (although that on had hills and a 15 mph head wind for half of it). What would you do differently?: Clean bike beforehand. A prettier bike makes you go faster - I am convinced of it. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: It rained for about 15 minutes of the bike portion - making the last corner into transition slippery. I almost bit it while running on my cleats. Other than that, it wasn't bad. What would you do differently?: Keep GU on race jersey rather than on bike. Took a little too long to get one from it. Not that I care about 10 seconds, but it takes my attention away from getting on with it. ![]() Run
Comments: Need to brick mode in practice. My second lap felt twice as fast as my first lap. I could have finished 2 minutes faster. I did have a side stitch the last half of the first into the second - so maybe I should have sipped water throughout the bike rather than huge gulps at the end. What would you do differently?: This is the better of the three events for me. I always finish thinking I should have pushed it harder ![]() Post race
Warm down: Banana, water Event comments: Very good beginner race. The wide pool lanes take the stress out of the swim. The awards were a little disappointing, but the Junior Race Series was cool to be a part of. No bike inspection even though this was USAT. Again, the volunteers were top notch, including the police hired to monitor the intersections. If I chicken out of the Tulsa Tri again next year I will definitely do this one again.
