Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30, showered, ate oatmeal with protein powder. Got the kids up and everything loaded in the truck and hit the road. Set up transition and mingled around the Velo Bella tent with my teammates.
Event warmup:

Ran up the course at a slow job, maybe a 1/2 mile altogether. Ate a Hammer Gel ~15 min before start.

  • 2 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

This is a "no tag" race, therefore no splits other than what my Polar watch told me.
What would you do differently?:

I followed a friend of mine for awhile before I finally decided that I could pass her. Should have just passed her sooner instead of fixating on it.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Once again, no splits. Ran fast into transition, tagged my husband/partner and watched him take off with his bike.

Comments:

My husband rode this portion of our relay. I didn't include the times above b/c I didn't want them importing into my training log. However, he did a great job finishing the ride in 33:58 at a pace of 20.47.
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

I should have used the porta pot while hubby was riding and I had a chance to...oh well!
Run
  • 16m 42s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

It was really, really hot for the second run. All the nice shade from earlier was GONE.
What would you do differently?:

I didn't push hard enough on the first half of this run, I wound up at the turnaround at 9 minutes and then kicked it back into gear in the final mile. I could have done better.
Post race
Warm down:

Smoothie King, Watermelen and bagels...can't beat that!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Passing the kids back and forth between spouses and friends during transitions was quite distracting, however it was great to have them there on Father's Day.

Event comments:

The lack of chip timing lent itself to some post-race awards disorganization. Also, I wish they had broken up the Relay segment into M/M, F/F, and Coed...if you lump them all together of COURSE a M/M is going to win. The wicking Tshirts instead of the typical cotton Tshirt is VERY MUCH appreciated! Thank you!
