Run
Comments: I was very relaxed since I wasn't planning to "race", but just to use the event as a nice, slow training run for the Disneyland half marathon in 2 weeks. I haven't been running a lot and only managed a 10 mile training run 2 weeks ago. It was sunny and HOT - took GU and water at 2.5 miles, a little water at 3 miles, then no more water/GU until next aid station at almost 7 miles. That was tough - took final GU at 10+ miles. Took it nice and easy, walked thru water stations, took 4 electrolyte capsules on the way. Never felt bad - power walked up a fair amount of the final 6th street hill (ran in the shaded sections) since I wasn't going for time and didn't want to burn up. Finished very strong - the Garmin was acting up, but ran sub 9 minute pace for the last half mile - felt great, considering. Hope it isn't hot at Disneyland in 2 weeks. Wasn't sore later in the day - I had energy for the beach! No GI issues either. What would you do differently?: Don't let as much time pass between first and second GU, especially in heat. Should have carried a little water - it would have been very welcome at around 5 miles. Post race
Warm down: Walked to the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat Event comments: Overall, this was a good training run. Would have been better to have more water stops, and keep the fuel more consistent for me. Last updated: 2007-06-08 12:00 AM
