Swim
Comments: According to the feel, the swim was WAY long today, more along the lines of 700-750 yards. I don't have any confirmation of this, but I'm pretty sure. I can comfortably swim, in a mob, at about 1:40/per 100 yards. My shoulder has been hurting still from my (hit and run) crash a month ago. MRI was Thursday, waiting on getting diagnosis (torn rotator cuff?) from the doctor. I did not swim as agressive as I could as a result, but that is about 5 seconds/100 yards, not the 20 seconds. I had 1 guy who kept trying to run me over, so I basically let him get on the outside of me, and I just sort of, um, pushed him offcourse with his sighting. What would you do differently?: Since my shoulder was hurting, I should have started further to the left. and stayed left of everyone. I would have added minimal distance, but been easier on my shoulder. Transition 1
Comments: Took a little long trying to dry off - the free towel I got at a different tri was not good for drying off, and getting shirt on while wet was impossible. At bike mount point, 4 people where standing ON THE MAT trying to clip in the bikes. I basically forced my way through and got a good flying mount, essentially blocking the 4 people. Why would people try to mount their bike ON THE MAT? Hello people, move to the side or you will get run over. What would you do differently?: Tri suit & different towel. Bike
Comments: I had a water bottle 3/4 original lemon/lime gatorade, 1/4 water. I couldn't choke it down, too strong. This was a major issue. Legs got tired on a few hills, need to work on hills better. Headwinds on the ride back. What would you do differently?: Better hydration plan. Check tire pressure in AM. Check brake drag after getting off bike rack. Need to get out of the saddle a bit more while climbing. Ride lots more. Transition 2
Comments: Legs felt a little jello right off the bike. Right shoe heel folded under, cost about 10 seconds or so while trying to straighten it out. Tried to get some liquid off the bike - cost me a few seconds at bike rack as well as a few at the water table at run out trying to get some liquid/play catch up. What would you do differently?: Practice a couple of brick transitions at speed, need to try to put on shoes tired. May have been an issue with the socks I had on. Better hydration on the bike. Run
Comments: My run was atrocious - No excuses. I had a good run for me, but in the grand scheme of things, it was not up to par with everyone else. What would you do differently?: Though this is a great time for me, I really need to work on my running - I need to really plan on running 4ish time a week - no excuses. I also need to have better hydration prior to the run - I started the run at a hydration deficit. Post race
Warm down: Walking around for a few minutes, and ate some pasta/liquids. Once I got home, I spent about an hour in the hot tub. What limited your ability to perform faster: 4 main issues: Swimming navigation. My shoulder injury hurt on the swim. Hydration on the bike. My run fitness. I took a sudafed this morning for a stuffy nose - this likely contributed to the over elevated HR levels. No sudafed before a race any more. 1452 Calories 103% Heart Rate Max 192bpm 86% HR Avg HR Avg 160bpm Event comments: Tuxedo Brothers are a first class event management company who always put on a fantastic event.
