Swim
Comments: Horrible feeling swim. I couldn't breathe due to my cold, after the first 100, my chest felt like it was on fire. I had to roll over and backstroke/breaststroke for a bit. I couldn't get into a groove. At the start, there were a couple of people who were trying to swim over the top of me, I just kept to my race, and kept driving on. I don't believe this contributed to the poor swim though, but for the guys who got kicked in the face, maybe not so. What would you do differently?: Try to not get a cold the week of a race. Work on my conditioning (swim more). Transition 1
Comments: Got into transition, and just kind of fumbled along. Got sand in my bike shoes. Just didn't feel in sync. Back of bike shoe folded over. What would you do differently?: Practice transition a couple of times the week before a race. Think about a foot bath. Bike
Comments: Couldn't really get into a groove at all. Hills killed me, especially on the outbound. On the inbound, I felt a little better, but not much. What would you do differently?: Conditioning - ride hills - ride to work. Not get sick before a race. Transition 2
Comments: Legs felt like jelly, but worse than usual. Feet were numb, probably due to bike shoes being put on too loose. What would you do differently?: I think I was pretty comfortable with this part. Run
Comments: Run didn't feel too bad, I just need to run faster. What would you do differently?: Run conditioning. Post race
Warm down: Drank lots of water/gatorade. Stretched a very little bit, and then hung out with the family. What limited your ability to perform faster: I have been sick all week - did this race with a wicked bad cold. I couldn't breath on the swim. The bike ride sucked - couldn't make it up any of the hills - lots of pain. The run itself was not terrible, but not quick I need to run/bike/swim more for conditioning. Aside from the above, I did PR the race, but I could definetly feel I was limited due to this damn cold. Event comments: I've never been to a bad Tuxedo Brothers Race. Woke up 3 hours before the race, ate 1/2 muffin, drank some water. Got the family up, dressed, in the car and got to the race site around 6:15am. Got a nice end spot, set up transition area and hung out with the family.
Not much, once in the water, I swam out about 25 yards to get used to the water before my wave.
