Swim
Comments: Started in the middle of the pack on the outer right side closest to the shore side. Within the first 100 meters there were only two or three guys ahead of me so I followed the one closest to me. Plenty of life guards in the water and the bouys were easy to navigate around. Goggles fogged up toward the end of the swim so I took them off. Exit was at the starting ramp but was not confusing due to the assistance of volunteers. What would you do differently?: Swim faster? Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit came off easily. Took my time getting my shoes on. No major problems as I didn't feel the need to push myself. What would you do differently?: Try to position my bike somewhere near the middle of the transition area. I was at the last row, closest to the water and run, but farthest from the bike mount exit and had to run about 50-75 yards before I could mount my bike. Bike
Comments: Started out slower than I wanted. I couldn't get a good rythm going for about the first 6-7 kilometers. Once I got warmed up though my ride was good. I liked the scenery, especially crossing over the dam. Overall, the ride was very enjoyable. What would you do differently?: Ride faster? Transition 2
Comments: No problems in T2 as I took my time transitioning to the run. Time is just an estimate. Run
Comments: The run was marked very well with 3 water stations, which were great do to the heat. My run was pretty weak to say the least. I felt like I had a hard time getting into a rythm and pooped out after mile two. I think I was passed by three or four guys in my age group. Oh well, good for them. What would you do differently?: I obviously need to add speed work to my training. A little more distance at a faster pace should help out. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, drank water and ate oranges. Event comments: Logistics were excellent, i.e., plenty of cones and volunteers. Race started about 30 mins late do to timing problems. Nevertheless, overall, this was a wonderful course and I would recommend it to anyone interested starting out in triathlons and/or those who just want a great workout. The volunteers, cops, explorers, and park rangers did an outstanding job. Last updated: 2007-06-09 12:00 AM

Up at 4:50 a.m. for the drive. A plain bagel and a can of Ensure (Wild Berry) for breakfast - um, um good. Coffee for the drive. Got there by 6:15 and registered right away. Volunteers did a good job with registration and markings. Transition area was clean and clearly marked (plus plenty of clean Andy Gumps).
Start of race was delayed about 30 minutes due to timing problems. Warmup consisted of mild stretching. I was in heat 5 so I had plenty of time to stretch once the race started. Prior to the race they allowed warmups in the lake.
